Steering Column / Tilt Lever

I've got the two piece plastic cowl off the steering column many moons ago to get at the washer/wiper harness. Finally got around to fixing it and now I can't get the bottom section back on (Don't ask how I got it off, don't remember)...the manual says the tilt lever can be "popped" out, snap together the two pieces and then "snap" the lever back in...not bloody likely.:banghead:
Anyone know the trick?

You have it right - you have to snap the upper and lower covers together.

Hi: Thanks for replying. That part I know. It's the tilt steering lever that's giving me fits. ALLDATA says I can remove it by popping it straight out. That is definitely not going to happen. There is some voodoo involved on getting this lever out...like an out-of-sight locking pin, etc. I can't just slide the bottom piece over the lever because the flat metal on the lever twists twice; everytime I try to "finagle" it back on this way the plastic threatens to break.

Believe it or not I did the same exact thing. I got mine off but could not get it back on. I also found the info stating that the tilt would pull straight out and I was like...I'm going to break something before I can get it out. Well...it is correct...it DOES just pull straight out. Just give it a really hard yank and it will come out. I looked everywhere for a release button...etc. I finally got mad and gave it a good yank and out it popped.
