Problem with Tamiya light curing putty

Do any of you have experience with Tamiya light curing putty?

I put some on six hours ago. It has been sitting under a flourescent light since but is not setting!!

This is the first time I have used it. Freshly opened tube.

How do I clean this gunk off so I can use regular puty instead?

you can clean it off with X20 thinners , thats the water based ones. I have only used in sunlight and its great

Yeah, just get it out in some of that bright Polish sunshine. My understanding is that it's UV that cures it- so a flourescent light may work, but it might be a bit like boiling water for your tea by holding your mug over a cigarette lighter.

I expect though that this time of year, Tamiya Dark Curing Putty would be a better bet for your market....

The film on the Tamiya site shows them using a desk lamp LOL

Interestingly I also read that after setting, it has a greasy film that you should clean off afterwards...

does the tamiya site also mention use of a uv lamp/bulb/tube?
if it's UV that cures it then it sounds similar to this glue that i use for glass that cures under uv.

Steve: I used it very succesful with sun light and also with fluorescent lamps: I've a box with 4 lams (12W) that I use for do my PE experiments: curing under sun is less than 1min, and to be sure 5/6 min on fluorescent light.

BUT: you have to do very thin coats, less than what Tamiya wrote (2mm wide) 1mm depth layer should be ok.

Do it and you haven't troubles: I'm pretty happy with it (edges of my 348 booth was redesigned with it: only 0.5mm wide) it's very quick and like rocks after 1min.

And about the strange film it have you could wipe with some thinner or simply sand it , but it's not needed in you need another layer of putty, just apply more putty over.

I take it all back. I am just simply stupid and in too much haste :(

The putty DOES generate a slight, moist, greasy fim after curing and this I think is what I was confusing with unset putty.

I wiped the film away with tamiya thinner on a paper towel and the putty was fine. I've sanded down the putty and it looks fine!

In fact, if further test with this go the way it now seems to be going, I will have to say that it is a great product and time saver - albeit damn expensive!

I will update this thread in a few days with some pics and shared experience as it may prove useful to others in the future....
