50-trim...

I'm very happy with my e-bay purchase at the moment... I bought a used 50-trim... second chance offer, for $85 shipped... The turbo is in excellent condition for the price...

It doesn't look like it will need a rebuild... but I'm going to do a tear down of it before using it (got to get the supporting mods first)...

I was told all I needed was 650-680 injectors... somebody local told me MachV said I didn't need the AFPR or DSMLink (b/c I have SAFC)...

I will at least be buying a Datalogger, if not DSMLink...

I also have a question a/b clocking... I have to reclock this turbo to be in the right position for the Talon... Will the turbo need to be rebalanced? (I would assume not, since I haven't actually turned the shaft or bearings or anything from it's original position)... but I'd like to know for sure...

You need a new FPR. Search for it under Kevins name and get some knowledge dropped on ya. 650's should do the trick and that is the farthest you can go on the SAFC. A logger/SAFC will work just fine, but DSMlink is far superior. IIRC with the AFC you can only play with fuel sliders, but with link you can do a better job adjusting them, not to mention all the other features of link. I would sell the AFC and get link for sure. If you dont have the money, I would run the AFC/logger combo until you can save up some money.

This "clocking" you speak of... new term for me, what is this?

aight... so I'll prolly save up and get the 650's soon... I can get a logger (non-color) for $90 on ebay ($140 for color, IIRC)...

I'll check for the FPR thing... I know that DSMLink is way better, but at the moment, money isn't permitting... (at the moment, I'll be sticking with the 14b)...

Clocking the turbo is when you remove the housing bolts and "clock" the housing to line up in the direction you need it (I bought a used 50-trim, with the housings lined up for another car, the way the compressor outlet and flange are rotated right now, I won't be able to bolt the turbo to the car)

Ahhh, thats what I thought. So if you were to bolt it up now, the compressor side would be pointing the wrong way, correct?

Yes. He wants to essentially "spin" the compressor housing a certain number of degrees (45, 90, 180, etc) so that it will line up correctly on his car.

I am running 650cc injectors on an S-AFC right now. I have not had a problem yet but, I have not tried to fine tune. I would highly suggest dsmlink just because I have heard good things about it.

yeah, the compressor side wouldn't be lined up right...

Ok, 650's it is... I'm new to the tuning game, I've only owned NA's before... for now, I'll pickup the datalogger, and have plans for the DSMLink... probably what will happen, is the next time it goes down, I'll sell the AFC and the Datalogger and buy DSMLink...

650's should work with the AFC, b/c they are only a/b 45% bigger than 450's... and the AFC allows 50% adjustment (am I right on this?)

But the 680's won't work b/c they are more than 50% bigger

Math: 450X1.45=652.75
450X1.51=679.5

Am I correct in this? Idk any formulas or anything, I'm just pulling up numbers off the top of my head as far as the difference in size is
concerned.

Edit: I'm assuming this is the thread you were talking a/b (concerning the FPR) http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=415511&highlight=fuel+pressure

Also, I have a stock engine, will I need to build the bottom end before installing this turbo, or will it be fine? and what kind of boost can I run w/my mods?

650cc injectors are something like 31.7% bigger than the stock injectors. My fuel trim correction is set at -31%. I believe this is right... I'll check for you next time I drive my car though.

Ok, what is the math involved in this?

I haven't been to school in quite a few months... and it shows :(
