I don't know if you have seen the commercial for this yet. Technology is amazing, I think. I can't wait until I can sleep an entire road trip.

The new LS 460 - Making Rich Snobs Even Worse Drivers!
Seriously, if can't park yourself you shouldn't be driving.

I don't like this new stuff. I'm not a fan of most anything that takes control away from the driver. Acura has already developed technology where cruise control is regulated by your proximity to the car in front of you so yu don't have to use the brakes. BMW has its own self-park system (although its much lamer than the lexus).
Just let me drive my damn car please. I get the feeling my kids won't be driving. They'll just hop into some self-automated pod that takes them where they're going. Like the Minority Report pods

Not sure, but I would guess this is car related. Therefore not a good choice in posting this in the Off-Topic/Computer forum.

^It fits here. I knew about this a while ago, and its exciting really. Yeah, kind of stupid, as if you don't know how to park a car, you shouldn't be driving, but there are some applications where i see some use. for example, in NYC, if you need to parallel park w/o scratching your shiny new ride, just let the car do it! (although, if you don't want to scratch your shiny new Lexus, i don't know why you'd be parking on the streets of NYC when you can easily afford a parking garage)
I think computers have come a long way and has become a really innovative field in the automaker's agenda. The things a computer does in cars like the 5-series, S-class, and this Lexus are really amazing; a great achievement. Given that a driver's car should be less computer interfered, i think these cars are really advanced, none the less, and make great cars for the right buyers.

Yup. No less stupid than having to push a button for your trunk to auto-close, or to have a massager built into a car seat. The list of useless crap that people don't really need can only get longer with the advent of new tech. Gradually, todays luxury will become tomorrows necessity. People will be like, "what? your car doesnt ahve auto-parking? damn, how old is it!?" lmao. It's funny, back in the day, GM would even offer seat belts and crash bumpers on their cars. And now you have a gazillion airbags standard on those little Hyundais.

LOL, but think about the sensors needed to input to a CPU that has a direct-drive mechanical link to the steering, and make it all work in response to objects.
What I wonder is, what if a car starts to move when you let the system take control to parallel park. The sensors should read the movement, or say a pedestrian, and what will the car do? Freeze? Not good with the snout pointed out into traffic lane, I smell lawsuits.
