Infinti Issue

Has only experienced with their QX4 or any Infiniti where you start up the car and you get a squeaking noise?
I can almost wager that is has to do with a fan belt, as you hear it noticeably only at startup and if your turning your wheel all the way to the left or right.
I think it has to do with the fan belt just needing wd40, but can anyone confirm that this has also happened to you?
I recently just purchased a used 02 QX4.
Thanks

If it's dependent on the steering it's going to either be the power steering pump belt or the power steering pump. Likely the belt.

Thanks for the info.

I hear this noise mainly at startup.... it only happens when the ignition turns on for a second.

The only other time I hear this noise is when I am turning the wheel to the left or right, so for example when I am pulling out of a parking spot.

Would this kind of repair be expensive?

At worst case I would think it would be a power steering pump bearing, which might run a few hundred dollars installed by a dealership. If it's just a belt like I would imagine it would be I don't see it exceeding $100 even if it needs to be replaced. Likely it's just a loose belt.

When the steering wheel is turned over full lock the pressure in the power steering line is at it's max and it's quite a substancial amount of pressure. The power steering pump creates a lot of drag when trying to push this much pressure to the point where it can cause a loose belt to slip causing the squeal.

Yeah just hope that your PS belt is loose, all you need to do is tighten the belt via tensioner bolt
