Can anyone tell me where the EGR valve on a 2000 5.7 Vortec 4X4 is located? Is this something I can clean or do I need to get a replacement EGR valve if needed? Thanks for any help.

I think I pulled mine once to inspect. As I recall, front center top on my 1997.
Why do you think you have problem ?

Well, I keep getting a rich condition showing up when I check the codes...I've replaced the FPR, upper intake gasket, fuel pump, fuel filter, oxygen sensors, cap and rotor, plus and wires and I'm still getting this damn code...I put some seafoam in the gas tank, oil, and intake/pcv valve and three days later I get the code again...lol...so I'm just going to have to inspect all the emission parts...see if that helps me at all...I'm wondering if I need to replace the lower intake gasket, but I'm thinking if I had a leak there I'd get a lean condition...who knows though.

usamarshall,
I just pulled the GM shop manual for 1997 C/K Truck, looking at 5.7l.
It contains diagnostic information and procedures for all DTC codes.
Reading sections on the P0172 and 175 codes, key elements are pressure check 60-66psi for CSFI and 56-62psi for SFI systems AND inspect O2 sensor. Pressure is modulated by manifold pressure so check it dynamically. Following URL is good for O2 visual. There are references to throttle position sensor, idle air control, and EVAP canister purge.

Also www.obdii.com has a forum on OBDII codes. Do search on your codes to see what others have found.

Yeah, I've checked those things already...everything looked good...I really don't want to replace the lower intake gaskets, but if thats the reason for my code then I'll have too...I wonder why the gaskets are so prone to having leaks...I wonder why there was never any recall to fix this problem...oh well...thats GM for ya...lol
