alright so since i have all this extra money layin around that i was going to throw into an evo 3 16g, i was thinking i want somthing bigger, now im not sure what to go with i have a few options but also a few questions to go along with them-- http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=191
- the first three turbos are what im looking at but im leaning more towards the g50 and g-57 because i think 60-1 might be over kill for street use? im not just gonna slap it on either im going to go with SBR tubular exhaust mani, i was gonna go with an external w/g but decided its not worth the money for the power im trying to make (which is around 350 wheel 400 wheel would be nice tho lol but not in my price range right now... so i think just internally gate it for an add 125$ im looking to run 15-20psi should i go with external or internal?) so with the g-50 or the g-57 im thinkin ill run my safc2 until i get dsm link, im also thinkin run 680cc's and 255 f.p and i just got my front mount in the mail today!!!!(ebay core and ordered some bead rolled pipes) so i cant wait to get my turbo which turbo would you guys go with my goals?? basically i dont wanna sound gay but i wanna be able to take stock sti's evo's and vettes all day long so lemme no what you guys think...i also put pics of the fmic install up this commin up weeken...oh and i also orderd a boost gauge and a.f and a piller pod with MBC today from dejon tool

50 trim, FTW.

I agree with Garrett, for 350-400 hp that SBR 50 trim is the way I would go. As far as internal vs external gating, external will pretty much always be better, but you may be able to pull it off on internal gating. I have heard that the biggest turbo to internally gate is a Evo III 16g though. Its kind of a toss up, if nothing else you can always go external later. Thats what I plan to do, I am going to run the internal gate on whichever turbo I get (looking at 50, 57, and 60 trims) and if need be I will later go to a external gate.

My question is why would you but a 50 trim with a dsm falnge when you want a different manifold anyway? You might as well go with a T3 setup that way if you decide to upgrade in the future you have more options

i would get a t-3 flange actually but i dont think im going to upgrade past a 50 trim on a gst (cuz of fwd)...i do want a gsx asap so idk well see
which turbo would be the better of the sbr 50 trim and this garrett

The turbos that you showed us have the dsm flange which is different from a t3 so getting that turbo and a t3 manifold would do you no good. You need a t3 50trim

Get the SBR turbo, it will bolt up to your stock manifold.

Why do you need a tubular exhaust manifold? Port the stocker and I'll flow just as good as any aftermarket one, if not better.

Yeah, I'm keeping the stock manifold... my turbo actually has the T3 flange (bought used) but I'm going to get some flanges/adaptors fabricated...
I'm keeping the stock manifold though...

i'm getting a tube manifold, but i'm also running an external gate... :2cents:

thats siick i wanna get tubular and an external w.g but probly wont for awhile till i get dsm link but i had a question actually... since the 50 trim is oil cooled, what are the ways to shut off your water line ive heard of welding but is there any other way? maybe my buddy can weld it for me since hes helping e with the intall

That way, you have yours still intact, in case you ever switch back to a water cooled turbo

t-3 is the way to go

why a t3 there is not a big diff just diff flanges

just a quick ???, so would it be safer to go external wastergate than internal(dailydriven)?? or would the external be too much depending or the turbo? for example, going smooth evo3 16g for daily driven or go aggressive t3 with external wastegate...wich would be more "street driven" or would it depend on the setup?

The wastegate doesnt make a difference. The bigger the turbo the slower the spool which is good and bad. Good is that you wont be boosting as fast and consiquently you'll see better gas milage, bad because there is lag. We are saying to get a t3 because of the flange. With a t3 flange there is so many more options than with the dsm flange

i see, thanks! another question, a local forum i go to, one person tells me that he has a 18g turbo with with a full exhaust system, uicp, side mount intercooler and a mbc. he tells me that he gets full boost from 3k till read line on the 18g turbo at stock boost levels...is this possible??

How the hell are we supposed to know? If hes on a 2.0 I doubt it, why dont you ask for a ride?

hahhah...thats the thing, we dont know. he's just on a local forum and tells us that his 18g turbo spools pretty fast like the evo 3....stock everything...

the wastegate is going to make a huge difference, especially on an evo316g. They are notorious for boost creep. If you decide to do external, look for a manifold with the wastegate mounted after the runners meet. Otherwise you run into tuning problems in that cylinder due to loss off backpressure.

:1: i would do external on anything bigger then a 16g otherwise boost creap will be a major problem, either way you look at it, external is worth the $$$ IMO... because it insures solid boost levels, and will never (knock on wood) fail :2cents:
