changing sparkplugs on 3800SC

Is there a trick to getting at the plugs on the firewall side of the engine? It looks like i could unbolt the front mounts and rock the motor forward a little to reach them. Is this a good idea? Also, what plugs and wires are the most reliable for a stock 97 GTP?
