Yeah, I think you have to ghetto them in a bit and I've heard of them breaking but I tell you what, my Talon wont be getting any short throw over $50.

I've got a cheapo shifter from ebay. I like it. Came with no instructions and I didn't find them until AFTER I installed it. :-( It's great. However, I had to take it apart a couple months back for something that I don't even remember. The threads on the inside Shifter Pivot became stripped. Don't know how that happened, but it assembeled fine. I figure I'm going to have to buy a new one eventually, but it's holding up great. It's also good to keep the stock one around, just in case too

I've heard mixed reviews on these cheap shifters...some folks have horror stories to tell about how the shifters just collapse, other's say they last forever. I would personally just go for a known B&M type. I got my B&M for the Spyder for $125 shipped. Install instructions were crystal clear, and I installed it in 20 mins (and I am stupidly slow).

my car came with a short shifter... I'm assuming it is an e-bay shifter, b/c everything else in that car is off brand (aside from MBC and gauges, but that was the last owner, the guys before didn't give a shit a/b quality, just speed...)
Mine is fine...

I personally just cut mine and re-welded it. Functions better than stock and didn't cost me a dime. ;)

I thought that didn't actually change the throw though? Like it changes where your hand is at at it's shorter at the top, but the actual distance traveled is still the same.

If you shorten the hight (where your hand sits) it will change the throw somewhat, not quite as effective as a short-throw shifter (they have different rod lengths at the bottom), but it will still shorten the throw from stock

Put it in yesterday and drove to the mall. i never thought a short shifter would make much of a difference. smoother shifting probably cause i can get the thing in gear faster now. A++++. I'm glad i bought it, i wish i had put one in the talon when i had it!

yeah, I've never had a car with a short throw (before my Talon), but it makes a huge difference in shifting, imho

I know I'm a few days late on this thread but I bought the B&M short throw for the Talon because its a lot better quality over the ebay ones. Although I'm sure its not very much of a difference...
As it was stated above, shortening the actual height of the upper portion will indeed shorten the throw. But, you won't have near as good of leverage as you would have leaving it the stock height and modifying the bottom portion as a typical short throw actually does.
Keeping that in mind... I actually gained great amounts of leverage with my B&M short throw and it left the upper portion the same height as stock. That is why they go into gear so much nicer, because of the gained leverage added to the shorter throw. I am contemplating altering the design a little bit to make the throw a flick of the wrist like a high end exotic car while retaining all its leverage for a nice easy shift.
**EDIT**
I almost forgot to mention... You should know better than to throw this in the main forum Mike. This is clearly a performance related thread.
