2002 Cabrio - power top not working

2002 Cabrio GLX with power top.

the power top isn't working. When I push the button to activate the top, sounds like the motor / pump is moving, but it does not lift the top open.

Anyone have any experience with repairs? Is this a motor or a pump? Costs, diagnosing, etc.?

This can be an expensive fix if the pump is shot (about $1000). Some have had luck disassembling the pump and fixing the impeller. Try checking vwvortex.com for hints.
