Question about which performance chip to get

Hey guys, I am from the Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000+ Forum, but my girlfriend has an 05 Cummins 24valve Diesel with the 6 speed. She has been looking into getting a performance chip, but I am curious as to which one to get. I am either looking at the Edge chip with the attitude monitor, the superchip, or the Bully Dog 3 dog chip. I am leaning towards the edge chip because of it's ability to change power modes on the fly, but am curious if it is really worth the extra 300+ bucks. Also, isit really as easy to install as it says, and do I HAVE to install the EGT sensor for it to work (or just for the EGT gauge to work). Any info would be much appriciated. She wants to do the whole A Pillar gauge cluster, and with the Edge Attitude monitor they sell a pillar with the monito mount and 2 extra circular gauge mounts (probably a boost and an oil or trans temp). I dont know a lot about diesel engines, but I do know that they can handle shit loads of power...she just wants to be able to smoke people on the highway. Thanks in advance.

i bought the edge...but then you have to buy injectors and fuel pressure gauges...maybe even a new tranny... if you don't have the oil, trans, turbo coolers that come w/ the towing package you might need them...plan on busting your ujoints

yu'll probably wind up trashing the injector pump if you set the edge on anything but the lowest setting, which I did, I trashed the pump...$2000 later plus the cost of the edge and the related hardware...
I still have the edge chip installed but I rarely top 2000rpm unless I need it. good idea to add at least 5%
soy to the diesel.

I dont understand why I would have to upgrade anything besides the injectors and maybe fuel pump. This truck NEVER tows anything, so I dont see how the added power would be anything worse than towing 13,000 pounds. The truck is loaded with extras, so I am pretty sure it has an oil cooler and trans cooler. She doesnt plan on dragging the car, so it wont have many hard standing starts. Thanks for your info, but I still dont see how you trashed your car by simply adding some power.

well before they beefed up the driveshaft on the cummings you could wrap it around the frame before you knew it... my 98/24valve came with maybe 200+ hp and some torque...

you could probably increase the hp to 500 and the torque to 1000...what you think the stock parts might think about that...

I understand what you are saying...I would totally agree with you if it were a sports car, or something that was designed with 200hp/trq, and was not supposed to be able to tow a mountain. But what I am getting at is that this truck IS supposed to be able to tow about 3 times its weight on stock parts. If the truck never tows that much (hardly anything ever...maybe 2 passengers and a dog) woulnt putting 500hp and 800trq be about the same as towing 7 tons? Also, since it's the 6 speed trans, the clutch is supposed to be able to hold all the weight it's towing, so I dont see needing to worry about that either. I would understand if I was planning on beefing up the motor and then proceeding to tow 13+ thousand pounds that there would be a serious problem. IDK, maybe there is something that Im not seeing here. Please tell me that you understand where I am comming from and correct me where I'm wrong.
