01 Sub Wont Fire

My 2001 suburban cranks but wont start. Last night I started the truck, but about 1/2mile later, it felt like I was out of gas. After that it wont start at all. I think it is either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. I dont hear the pump at all when turning the car over, and the fuel pump has never had the classic noise that most have when they are starting to go bad. Does anyone have any suggestions?
