1992 PA - Harmonic Balancer Question

I have a 92 P/A and I have hear a 'rattling noise' under the car when I start driving! My brother thought it was the convector shield was loose or broke. I check it and it was fine! Could that noise be the balancer? Maybe this is why I have been replacing the cam sensor, ICM and spark plug wires with no results! Autozone told me today that the SES code was a 'MAF' or electrical problem!

Get the code and post back, also thread a new thread this is too old. Yes the balancer could make the noise, take the belt of and grab the outer hub and see if is loose.

Does the rattle go away as the RPM's go up, or does the noise continue? Another sign of a bad balancer is the terrible noise at low RPM's. At higher RPMs I would suspect a bad belt tensioner (Which would still change with higher RPMs).

The maf may just need cleaning, but I doubt that a bad HB would cause the MAF to read wrong....odd. Separate issue from the HB if I were to guess.

Here is a tutorial on how to clean the TB, IAC, and MAF:

Ah, then you may just need to replae the MAF, it isn't too expensive if I remember right.

Any luck on looking into the HB rubber separation?
