i have a 1989 camaro iroc-z. I noticed the whole steering wheel (everything that moves when you adjust the tilt) moves up and down about a good inch and a quarter at the steering wheel. I havent been driving it for the past week due to this and its a hassle. In the pictures below it shows how much the colum moves. The first picture and the second are almost in the same place but the colum in the second picture is higher, I am lifting it up in the second picture. In the third picture it shows what moves, the red cirlcled area is all that moves and the blue is where it is moving from. If anyone has any ideas on what this could be i would appriciate any feedback. thanks a lot. Jason

Inside the column there are 4 bolts that need to be re-tightened and some locktite thread lock applied.
There is a heavy spring in there that will have to be removed while doing this and it is sometimes a bitch to get back in properly.

A word of CAUTION!------- You will have to be extremely careful not to pinch the tiny wires that operate your Wiper, wash, turn, dimmer and CC

to get to these bolts do i have to take off the steering wheel and the internals from there in.

Pretty much everything will have to be torn down to get to those bolts.
Steering wheel, and all the guts. Turn signal switch comes out. Tilt pins come out, cover on the side at turn signal lever comes off. there is a retaining ring at the tilt tension spring that holds it.

I have a GM Mechanic - Friend and he advisies that if your not sure about the internals of a steering column to seek experienced help with this project.

Good Luck
