2000 grand prix gtp
randomly, when i start the car it will turn off after 1-3 seconds. if i start it and put it in gear quickly, nothing happens everything seems fine. does anyone know what this may be? also around when this started, my power steering pump started getting louder. could these be related or 2 seperate issues? thanks to anyone who could point me in the right direction

Check fuel pressure and see if in specs. How old is the fuel filter? Have you ever replaced the fuel pump resistor on your GTP?
The power steering pump issue sounds unrelated. Check the fluid level and it is not uncommon to hear some noise when the weather turns cold.
Also, clean the throttle body with carb or TB spray cleaner. Remove the idle air controller (IAC) clean the spring loaded pintle and the seat/orifice at the TB. Clean the MAF sensor element with electrical or MAF sensor cleaner.

thanks for the quick response. i have only had the car for about 9 months or so, and have not yet replaced any parts. this has been my first and only issue so far. i will have to try your suggestions over the weekend and see what i can find. sounds like it may be difficult to find because of how randomly it happens.as far as the fuel pump resistor, where can i find procedures on testing and/or replacing?

See tech procedures below and good luck.
BTW - The first one is easier.
