premium fuel

im trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my car. While driving, and while idling too, sometimes my car will almost completely stall out, lose power, and then return to normal as if nothing happened. It happens in bursts, takes only a few seconds, and then like I said it runs like nothing happened.
Some people have said that it might be an ignition or injection problem, but i dont get a check engine light when it happens.
The 98 Prelude requires premium fuel. Does this kind of cutting out sound like the result of crummy fuel. The last two times i filled up i did so at a no-name gas station. Since then, the occurances of my car almost dying have become more frequent.
If anyone could let me know anything they know, especially regarding whether or not it could be a problem with the quality of the gas, i would appreciate it so much. Thank you for your time.

Either way premium means premium. The reason they tell you to do this is so that you dont get knok and detonation in your engine. And yes it is as bad as it sounds

Even though you solved the problem, and premium fuel does make a difference, i thought i'd give my input as well.
My buddy ben, has a T-16 turbo charged eclipse. His car does the same thing after re-setting his boost controller computer. THis is normal, because the computer is getting re-aquainted with the engine. While the computer takes about 5-10 mins to re-adjust, don't push your turbo too hard for that time period.
THis is what i know, in experience with turbo cars. Any experts, please agree/disagree with me as well as inform me of any mistakes i made. I still am learning, but decided to give my input here.
If you saw the movie, "Gone in sixty seconds" when Nick Cage is driving the Shelby GT, when he breaks the mirror off the car while back up, and the car idles, cuts out and idles, then stalls. THis is what "I" mean when resetting the boost controller computer.
