Weird turn of events

Well, this was quite a shock to me, considering how my parents are towards me modding the car....

I told the parents that I bought 14b on Sunday. They were kinda mad, but not really. Anyway, I was making lunch today, and my dad comes in and asks me why I want to put a ~16 year old turbo on the car. He then said he'd rather me buy a brand new one. I told him they don't make these anymore. So he then told me to order the evo3 16 I originally wanted. I was pretty much speechless.

I would love to get it, but the only thing holding me back is that I can't do any fuel mods. How far can I push an e16g on stock fuel? I'm guessing not much. Would it be more beneficial to keep the 14b?

IF I were to buy it right now, I'm going with
http://www.turbochargers.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=38_27&products_id=186
with the genuine MHI e16g.

Also, would I also have to really tune it if I got the e16g since it will flow so much more air, eventhough I'm not touching the fuel?

Please give me honest answers! Thanks

Obviously you'll want some kind of logger and tuning device (safc2)?, but you could run that turbo until you are able to do fuel mods. As long as you don't crank the shit out of the boost you should be alright.

I already have an safc/logger, but I can't do fuel for a long time.... prolly like a year or so when I move out.

Hell no... what you do is... buy the turbo, then tell your dad the car's gonna burst into flames if you don't have a fuel controller. Then tell him it was his idea to buy the turbo in the first place.

If that doesn't work, you could always give me the e16g

Why? Do you parents keep close enough tabs on you to know if you spend the extra $300 for a 190 and some 550's?

My mom does... anytime I have a box shipped to the house she asks what it is... and I have too many siblings around to lie a/b it...

I'm worried b/c I bought that 50-trim and it's supposed to be here tomorrow... I think I can get away with it this time, b/c I have a crapload of other parts coming in (to get the car back on the road).

That's why you ship it to someone elses house. I've done that a couple times. Other times I just get lucky. Like when my cams can in. No one was home. They uisually ask what I get. So I just ship it else where, either to my boys who is right down the block or my g/f house.

I've thought a/b doing this... but my boys all live too far away(I live in country)... and my g/f lives w/me...

I have thought a/b shipping it to Meineke, where my boys work... but they'd prolly joke me and say that they never showed up...

that and my g/f would find out and talk shit if I shipped it to my best friend's house...

I think I'm gonna just stick with the 14b. The one I got was for only $60, and it's in perfect condition, plus it's ported. Thanks guys.

That's a good idea... if I started a seperate bank account... (I can't have it direct deposit from work though, my mom is the book keeper  )

I'll wait til I got my own house, start my own account and my g/f will never know... lol

My parents learned to stop asking when a box would arrive for me every other day. lol Now they just set it in my room and leave me be with it. They have pretty much figured out that the Talon is not being rebuilt stock. lol

Man if you already have safc2, you can prolly get 550's for like 150 and walbro 190 for like 90bucks. 240$ and your running around 20PSI on the 16g. Dig deep and find the cash its worth it for sure@!!!!

Thats too funny. I had the exact same situation happen to me when I changed my turbo. Parents ended up buying a 16g because they didn't trust the 14b. I went with the 16g though. I couldn't boost over 12 on stock fuel fuel with stock exhaust. Had a logger at the time.

I decided I'm gonna hold off on the e16g. The 14b will be enough untill I move out, so I can actually do everything the right way. Who knows, by then, I might deicded on going bigger than a 16g :grinyes:

Thanks for your replies.:smokin:

I'm with Brian, my parents used to ask and bitch, but now they just leave it in the garage or put it in my room, but I get a bunch of random shit all the time too so I just tell them it's a hard drive for my Xbox or something when it's really something for my car.

yeah, my dad helps me and everything but he will never wanna go to the track with me, and everytime i wanna mod my car he says it's stupid.

I don't tell my parents anything I do to my car performance wise, but my mom isn't stupid. She always asks' " does that make it go faster?" "You dont need to make it go any faster!" If they knew I had a 14b in my closet they would shat their selves. So what I do is order the stuff on my grandma's credit card, give her the money, and send it to her house ( she lives next door). Parents never know.

I agree, I wish my dad was like that.

As for hiding stuff from my parents, why do your parents care so much?

When I get packages my mom just leaves it at the foot of the stairs and just asks what it is, just out of curiousity. She could care less....hell, its not like she know what a turbo or anything else auto related is, lol.

All my parents know or think they know is modding leads to problems and problems are bad. That is their logic and there is no reasoning with them. I come up with excuses though. Like I toly my parents an afc would give me better gas milage so I got that and I needed a new timing belt so I got a whole head rebuild. On my new car its going to be stuff like I need a new air filter so I might as well get a CAI while I'm at it or something like that.

I dont think you could do it very easily any way. Plus that would be gay im happy with the 350 the way it is.

My dad's a complete gearhead, but from the old days. He's got 2 68 Camaro's, a 67 Camaro, and an old Chevelle. He would be all for it if I was modding an older car or even a newer domestic (new GTO, souping up a Pickup), but he thinks that because it's "Japanese Junk" that it'll just fall apart. But I can't wait to see the look on his eyes when I beat whoop the shit out of his 68 Z28 Camaro (11.2 1/4 mile) with my AWD "Jap Junk" Talon. He's agree'd to race me, now I just have to finish my car.

lol, my dad doesn't live w/me... and my mom knows just enough to get on my ass a/b things...

like yesterday, my 50-trim came in... and I tol her I took the turbo off of my car and was gonna see if it needed to be rebuilt while I had the car apart... lol...

good thing she doesn't know a/b turbos... b/c that 50 is a wee bit bigger than a 14b... lol

I earn my money so its not my parents say on what I do with it... I don't even know how they can bitch about shit like that to you guys. My parents know I like modding my car so they just go along with it. Plus i don't live at home so its not like they could ground me or something.... Plus my mom thinks my front mount looks good so thats all she knows... She says i have a face in my car. headlights eyes, nose eagle logo, mouth middle section of bumper with teeth (fmic) and then dimples outside bumper holes. She just says the cars always smiling so she likes it.... Girls are soo easy to please and then sometimes sooo hard.

Edit: Need For Speed Carbon is a very VERY short game... bought it monday afternoon(about 2:30) played till i got hunger, then went to sleep. went to class today untill 10, and beat it @ 4 o'clock this afternoon (tuesday) and i wasnt even trying to finish the game... I miss NFSU2 (Underground 2) where the 2g was in the game and it was long as hell...
