Upper Strut mount I35 02

Hi, All

Have anyone changed the upper strut on any I35 2002. I have a bad noise and it happens when i pass over a road bump. Shock absorder is in excellent condition and tierod ends in & out and Ball joints are new.

Does someone has removed the Shock absorder before. Do you need to compress the spring in order to replaced the upper plate with bushing?

you don't need to compress the spring to get the strut assembly out of the car, but you do have to compress it to take the top plate off or else the spring will shoot off. your best bet is to put the spring compressors on with the car on the ground, so the weight of the car compresses the spring for you, then jack it up and go to work.

Typical Noisemakers : Loose shock shaft end nut, or broken/loose strut cap(or valves inside), antiroll bar. The bearing is reliability is 300x to shocks, but of course anythin may break... U will get structure pics by seeking via links below.

Does the upper plate get loose when the strut goes down?

Do i need to change the bearing? It sound like a piece of can bouncing in the upper part of the suspension and does it mostly whe you pass a speed bump at lower speed.

I already rented the Spring compressors at Autozone here in Tucson AZ and will performe the surgury tonight in my garage.

the upper plate only comes loose when you undo the center bolt.


i had to change my strut bearing but it was because when i'd turn the steering wheel it made a noise like "crink crink". i don't believe it would cause the noise your experiencing.

Changed both sides but seems like the Shock absorber is the problem.

Will try to re-adjust the shock absober nut but its most likely that i need new shock .

Does someone knows where I can buy them at a reasonable price?
