I'm very excited, because I have been on the hunt for a donor car to swap the engine and tranny out of and I may have found one. Its a 75 Nova with a 350 and a manual 4 speed. My question is, will the engine and tranny go into an 80 El Camino? I know that modifications will have to be made and I understand the work that may need to be done, and I am willing to learn.
How much custom fab is needed to get that manual trans into my car? Does anyone make a kit? Thanks SOOOO much because this car is near my home and they are asking 3800, which I can kind of afford, anyway thanks again.

well, are you going to use the nova for anything after you gut it of its motor and tranny? 3800 bucks for a used motor and tranny is pretty high, especially if its just a stock 350. you could probably get the stuff you want cheaper by buying one of those 1400 dollar 350 crate motors and doing small mods to it and the tranny can be got cheap from any local junkyard or a shop or something. even if its the same price, you have a motor with zero miles on it. is the tranny a rare one or something? maybe that would be why they want so much

I agree that 3800 is alot when you can get complete engines for around 2200 and they have some good horsepower stuff in them, as for the tranny that tranny around here in junkyards are like 200-400 tops

Its actually $3500 but anyway, I was hoping to sell the body and everything else when I'm done that way I get at least some of my money back. Not many junk yards around here where I am. Most of them are 96' and up, so manual shifts are far and few between.

Hmmm well i know our junkyard can order parts from other junk yards, maybe yours could do the same, ours uses a parts locater

I asked and they do order parts from other places....but the catch is that the other places are still 96' and up...so if I'm gonna do it that way I have to learn all the stuff I should look for in newer parts. For instance I THINK that the 4L60E is the 4 speed automatic that will bolt up to a 350 and isnt to much hassle but i dont really know for sure. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You could use a 700r4 the 4l60e is electronic and i dont think you have a computer for that.

1982 to 1991 you might want to put in a shift kit and a corvette servo. the servo goes for $27.99 on ebay

Dont go with the b&m they are no good My friend burnt two tranny's with the b&m but he says that b&m is the best. That is what happens when you dont listen.

you might also use one of this kits since youre car did not come with the 700r4. Lockup Package, Part # K017. This kit allows you to eliminate the lockup solenoid and wiring in the 1981-1986 700r4 transmissions. This works great for transplants. The lock-up valve and sleeve was used in early valve bodies 81 through 86. The later valve bodies, 86 through 89 kept the valve bore, but were non-functional. 90 through 93 valve bodies were produced without the valve bore. As long as the bore is in the valve body, the hydraulic package will apply. This kit includes 5 different springs giving choices. This kit includes all valves necessary. It allows non-electrical operation of lock-up. The valve body must be out to install. you could find this on ebay for 72 bucks and 6 shipping
