An engine swap?

Ok so Ive just started thinking about redoing my whole 93 dodge shadow. Ive been givin a 96' acura integra 1.8 engine for free. All that I know that is wrong with the engine is a broken rod bearing. Honestly I am new to cars and dont really know of the cost or labor of getting it all fixed. Also Im not the only one working on this, my buddy who is well knowledged with cars is helping me by giving me the motor ,knowing family mechanics who'll do all the engine work and mounting of the engine also with the designing. So mostly the only work I'll be doing to my car is the exterior and interior detailing. Im well rounded in this field. So what Im hear for is to ask if anyone has done something close to this or knows anything about this that might help. Thanks!:sunglasse

So whats wrong with the motor in the Dodge?
I don't know anything about the Dodge Shadow, but if its a heavy car then forget about a Honda B18 making it fast. I did a quick Google, and it looks like there is a V6 option in the shadow? My guess is its not the lightest car, and tweaking a Dodge V6 engine would be more sensible option.
As a general guide, anything more than 1200kg's is to much for a B18 if you want a really fast car.

Agreed, utterly pointless swap.

dodge shadows are pretty fast even with the 4 cyl.
the v-6 would be a much better swap.
although if you want the most power (without modifying the engine) go for the 94 I4 turbo.
the 3L V-6 would give more power if you added a turbo and did some work an the internals tho.
edit:
Shadows and Sundances came with the following engines, although not all engines were available each year:
2.2 L I4 - 93 hp and 122 ft·lbf of torque
2.5 L I4 - 100 hp and 135 ft·lbf of torque
2.2 L turbocharged I4 - 146 hp and 170 ft·lbf of torque
2.2 L turbocharged I4 - 174 hp and 210 ft·lbf of torque
2.5 L turbocharged I4 - 152 hp and 185 ft·lbf of torque
3.0 L V6 - 141 hp and 171 ft·lbf of torque

You all probably know better than me. But Im only swapping to add some life to my car, the engine is at around 180k miles on it and doesnt run too well and the acura engine Im getting is free. Im not really looking to race this, just something that will run longer look nice and have some kind of kick.

If you want to add life more reliably and w/ probably less work just get that engine rebuilt maybe? It couldnt be much more than the cost of fixing the b18 engine. A messed up rod bearing (if that's for sure the only thing wrong) could cause some pretty expensive damage if it's messed up the crankshaft or any other part that needs to be put back together very precisely for the engine to last a while.
Anyhow, I don't know much about dodge shadows, but does the b18 even bolt up to the tranny? or fit in w/out much fab work to mounts and stuff? What about the ECU and wiring harness?

Id have to fab. everything to make it fit. Thats where I was estimating most of my cost to get the engine in. Id be getting it all done with people i know, people who know what theyre doing.
I may just forget about the acura motor. Where can I find a well running v6 dodge engine cheaply?

you might even be able to fit in the 3.8 if you do, just make sure it is the 231 block, not the 229 block.
the 231 is great, the 229 is shit.
you can tell because in the 231, the distributor will be in the front, and it will be a large cap (i think). the 229 dist is in the back, and a small cap.

wait... sorry.
dodge didn't make the 231, but it is a GM engine, so it *should* work.
the dodge 3.8 is a 230 ci.
i dont know much about it except that it was for a caravan, so if you can get it to work, it would make your shadow FLY. (lots of torque)
you can get a re-manufactured block for 1,555. keep in mind you will still need fuel injection stuff, and all the accessories that make an engine run well if you go this route. best would be to pull one out of an old dieing caravan, as there are probly tons of them laying around.
it is a longblock so you may well not be able to fit it. especially in a shadow.

Arnt caravans rwd?
2.2 Straight six

i think they're FWD, most MPVs and such are, so you don't need a big shaft tunnel running down the length of the chassis.

Aren't caravans rwd?
nope. fwd.
why does it matter?
the only RWD van i know of is the chevy astro/GMC sierra.
possibly dodge sprinter.

they offered (still offer) both fwd and awd caravans (and all the different flavors of the caravan)
there's something really wrong with how far this conversation has slid. If someone starts discussing turbo'ing a minvan, I'm going to start torturing small furry animals :D

Actually, the caravans sold in the 1980's (1986-1990 I believe) had an optional 2.2L Turbo four, AND came with a 5 speed manual trans.
