What is the purpose of a bov? Do they all make that noise? How do you hook it up? Can anyone hook it up, or is it a lot to it? i see them all the time on ebay.

no they don't all make that noise, you have a stock one on your car that doesn't make loud noises. Please do a search this question has been asked dozens of times, as well there is a part in the FAQ about picking a BOV.
My advice, if the stock one isn't leaking, don't waste money on a new one.

I think an oil change is a lil bit harder than to hook it up :grinyes:

BOV comparison (http://johnmonnin.netfirms.com/BOV.html)
BOV install (http://www.penguinhosting.net/~bigmac/store/RT/dsmbov/dsmbovInstallation.html)
Both in...you guessed it...the FAQ
All you need is to read the FAQ, a screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench

I have read the faq a couple of times.. Im looking at either the turbo xs rfl bov or the turbo xs racing bypass valveh34... i havent decided yet, but i was wondering if its the same installation for all bovs? I was looking at the picture of the turbo xs rfl on a 3000, but it looked like it had lots of hoses connected to it.

If it was me.. I would wait a little while.. learn about my car and then make and educated decision..

I know for a fact this has been covered multiple times, but...
I havn't looked into the turbo xs valves personally, but here is the deal. Your stock valve is recirculating. I believe turbo xs valves are open-loop...the complete opposite...ie, venting to the atmosphere rather than venting back into the intake system.
That means they will be louder, and they will also cause your car to run worse. They all have the same amount of hoses connected to it, as far as I've ever seen. However, if you vent to the atmosphere, you will need to find someway of blocking off the recirculating tube on the bottom of the intake 'bubble' 'T' (connnets to your MAS...it has a hole in the bottom which needs to be blocked by a medicine bottle top or something).
If you go with an open loop BOV, and block off the recirculating tube (with bottle top or whatever) you will then run rich after every shift or hard acceleration and will have rich issues, and potential stalling, without and Air/Fuel Controller to tune out the problem. (not to speak for everybody, but myself personally am 100% anti open-loop BOVs on stock applications)
If you go with a recirculating BOV, such as the DSM bov in the installation directions above, or a Greddy Type-S, you will have far less problems. The only problem you may encounter is the need to relocate 2 intake pipes a bit out of the way of your shift linkage/counterweight.
And lastly, I say again, if your stock BOV hasn't started leaking seriously, I personally think this is a lousy to waste a few hundred dollars. If I could do it again (and my stock BOV was leaking) I'd go with a used DSM bov for under $50.

WTF? How come I never seen this freakin shit. AHHHHHHHHH:banghead: If i had that info i would of neve gone open loop in the first place! Thats why i failed emissions and wasted more than 300$ on parts and diagnostics! AHHHHHHH:banghead: that should be faqed cuz that is some Really good info!
hey igo i plan to go open loop tomarrow. I will buy a afc on my next check. Running rich for about a week or two wont badly infect my oil cuz i plan to do a oil change on January. All im tring to do is not to fudge up my new engine.

no a week is no big deal. some people have been running open atm bovs for a long time and not had any problems. As long as you keep up on your oil changes its not an issue. The stalling, however, could suck. Worth dealing with to have your car sound cool? completely up tp you. If i had the money i would get a nice aftermarket BPV or a BOV with a recirc. adapter. If your really worried about it, i would just take it easy on the throttle. If you dont get into boost, then the BOV doesnt really purge much, wich means no running rich and no stalling lol.

my car never stalled. i dont know why but it ran ok. cant belive that hose made me fail emissions. but what the hell ive passed them awhile ago so now I am modding my Whale.
