Airbag light stays on intermittently

I have a 1997 GP coupe. After i start the car the airbag light will blink around 7 times...sometimes it stays on sometimes it goes out,,,recently it has been staying on....anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on and how I can fix it?

When the airbag light stays on that means a DTC has been stored in the Service and Diagnostics Module (SDM) which is the brain of the SRS/Airbag system. The GM dealer has the capability to scan for these codes to help determine the cause. Otherwise it is a guessing game.
