z3 alarm problem. need advice

a few days ago while driving home from work my car alarm when off. It was very embarrassing to say the least. I pulled off to the shoulder and shut off the car. (big mistake) Luckily it started again after 2 or 3 tries, but the alarm was sounding the entire time. I drove the car 7-8 more miles down the road and finally the alarm stopped. It sounded like a music box winding down. The car ran ok for the next couple of days. On Friday though it would not start. Dashboard lights come on but no crank of the starter. I started messing with the fuses (finding the alarm fuse, pulling it and replacing) and the alarm started going off again. I finally disconnected the negative cable from the battery to stop the noise. What could be the problem and how can I get the car started to drive to dealership? I really don't want to have to pay for a tow. The nearest dealership is 20 miles away. Thanks for any help. :crying:
