what are some of your top speeds in your cars?
just interested.... mine are pretty lame but anyways...
1999 Dodge Neon - 200 km/h (124 mph)
1990 Civic Si - 210 km/h (130 mph)
probably shouldnt be going that fast in a 16 year old civic...
*lol @ neons

I've had my crx si doing about 210 or so..the needle is buried after 200 but I know she has a little more but I'm afraid to push the engine..rpms are over 6500 at that point...

My car has hit 117-118, but The PW-0 ecu has this nifty little scare-the-hell-out-of-you feature which kills fuel input when it reaches it maximum allowable speed. It could have gone much faster, I was in 4th gear at roughly 6750-7000rpm. The second time I attempted the, My right CV shaft failed and locked on me when the sudden jerk of the limiter came, nearly throwing me off the road, so yes, trying it in a 16yr old car IS VERY DANGEROUS. Period, im never doing it again.

on a semi-deserted (depending on the time of year) stretch of interstate where i used to live, i routinely drove 100mph on my way to school. i was routinely late no matter how early i'd wake up. i just couldn't leave on time.
i've gotten my little 89 crx (dx) up to 120mph on occasion when i felt brave enough, but i was always afraid i'd throw a rod or lose a wheel or something.
with some cars, i'm sure you'd barely get a rush going 120, but in the crx, being low to the ground with pitiful, old struts, and barely any sound insulating from road-noise, it was quite an experience.
i've developed a little more respect for my elder-car lately, though. i drive a nice sleepy slow pace and if i'm late, i'm late.
and, yeah, it took 2 speeding tickets a month apart for me to learn...
that until i get a nice radar detecter, i need to develop a flock/herd mentality and kinda blend in more with traffic.
and i don't know anything about my ecu. i didn't realize there were different ecu's within the same car unless you swapped them yourself.

I've had my 4dr up to 120 a couple times and it actually rode pretty nice - the motor was around 5k if I remember correctly with the ex tranny. I've got a hf tranny in there now and I'm curious how high it'll go cause my 3rd gear on it will do over 100 and still not be at redline. I did 120 for about an hour or so coming back into boise from twin falls a few years ago.

I guess even with modded engines we are all still pretty limited top speed wise..don't forget the wind factor: at that speed you best hope a gust of wind doesn't pick you up and carry you away, lol...

Mine is for the B16, so yes its different.
And your right..100 mph is a very different experience in a civic, although both times I did it were at night, and the first tiem I didnt even realise how fast I was going until the limiter hit..it was so dark, I passed by a light post and caught a glimpse of the speedo coming back down past 115, I had no idea, it was so smooth all the way up..i was just focusing on the rpm's. The second tiem I was much more aware of the car, and its really is quite unnerving.

Wow...I didn't realize I was that reckless of a driver. I do about 90 daily in my BMW to work but I've hit 160 before in my boy's H22 swapped EK coupe.
As for my crx, i've driven faster in the quarter mile than some of you have ever driven on the street (108 mph) lol.
With my 22'' slicks, top speed is only 153 at 9k.
With my 23'' daily tire/wheel combo my top speed is 160 @ 9k
Fastest i've driven in the rex is 145 on the highway just toying with an STi...those things are slow as poop from a dig. I know my motor can handle it, I just get worried about the CF hood at those speeds, I can see it just ready to let go even though it's latched, it just worries me.

I must have a pw0 too, cause I top out 115-118, its annoying as hell. I'm not worried about my car failing at that speed (course I hardly ever go over 80 anyways), but we didnt get our cars for the safety rating anyways haha.
Course these top speeds are also not as scary when we're driving. My friend rode in his friend's turbo 300Z going about 150-160, he said it was really scary being a passanger.

120ish in a 4th gen LX sedan... hit 5th at around 90 and just cruised it up.. and that was when it still had DPFI on the B2..
Around 170 on the highway in a S15 swapped 240SX, riding with a friend..
um.. I think 130 for a few seconds until I got to the winding part of the road further up the mountain in my old turbo Sunbird LE, then I slowed down and started e-braking.
and last, but def not least, my Escort GT (88 1/2)... 144 mph in 4th gear @ about 6500... still had another gear to go.. you want unnerving?? That was it.. especially when a cop came off the exit next to me. Man.. I soooooo wanted to hit 5th that night, cuz my friend was talking about he read the specs, and found out the car was gear limited to 165ish, and mine was turbo :D

You think my shocks are blown, or even the originals? Your completely ass wrong buddy. I don't let my car fall to hell, All of my bushings are fresh and my ball joints replaced at signs of wear, I replaced the entire right upper arm just about a month ago. I don't find anything wrong with my apc coil overs, and although I wouldn't have thought to buy them, they came with the car. The CV axles however completely eluded me until it failed. But the fuel cutoff is a real wakeup call, its very dramatic and the torque it put on the steering rack when the joint locked almost wrenched the wheel out of my hands. But as a guy above me said, we didnt buy em for the safety rating :grinyes:

Mmk... do some basic math here. If the escort GT is geared for 165mph @ 9k, and it's got something like 140 hp stock (underrated from the factory, and the car is completely gutted, less almost everything except the front seat, dash, and a few other essentials, and turbo'd, pushing 8-10 PSI into a stock 1.9litre HO motor, that makes for a car that is pretty much as light as a CRX, with about 250 hp.. you put 250 behind a CRX, and lemme know if you can do 145 with an HF tranny in it. (The HF gears are closest to what the GT has).
And as far as the Silvia S15 (240SX) I haven't the slightest idea what else was done to it, I just know that it wasn't road legal at all, and he had a complete S15 imported so that he could take parts off it, engine, trans, etc.
Aside from that, he could have had any number of parts combos on that car, and I wouldnt have known any different, as he was about the smartest racer I've even known, and never let ANYONE look under his hood... even other tuners and enthusiasts..
(By the way, it looks ALOT different when you're the passenger, and it looks even more different, when you're the passenger, and you're on the left side of the car, in the front seat)
You all need to remember that just b/c you haven't had an experience exactly the same or even similar, doesn't mean that someone else hasn't either, and that it's not really that hard to make a car go 140 on a down hill stretch of highway.

i don't think the 170 in a S15 is BS. I had my 95 240 running beside a Ford F150 Lightning doing 137 @ 5300 rpms. Ive had it up to 6k before and the whole thing started shaking like crazy.....it needed a lot of attention.
Alot of cars come out with a limiter at 118 for some strange reason. Alot of Ford trucks top out before that, so they are fun to play with on the interstate when they think they are a badass.

when i got my GSR-T tuned, my tuner took the speed limiter off and raised the redline to 8500rpm. He ripped a 5th gear pull and shut it down at 153mph, but that was on the dyno...theoretically w/ the tires and gearing i have, it should do 166mph, but i won't ever see that speed.....i think its stupid to go any faster than about 130mph in my GSR....unless its my trap speed....lol+zzz

It was whatever load was used to tune. I ran on a Dyno Dynamics dyno if that makes any difference to you. I'm not saying it was entirely accurate, but with 300+whp behind me, i'm pretty sure i could overcome the wind resistance and hit 160 or whatever speed the engine will allow me to hit....provided it holds together at full load at 7-8k rpm
