Have a 1999 ford contour svt and i have been searching around for a reputable company that makes a chip fort my car, and i finally found one that jet performance makes for my car on ebay $270US..
---My question is i herd that i will have to send it back to be programmed for my vehicle is this true? or is it already pre-programmed for my vehicle already?
---one other thing is i have a modified exhaust (no cat, resonators and aftermarket mufflers) is this going to compromise the chips performance and i have a cold air intake on the way 2............thanx guys

First off, Jet chips flat out suck since they are generic chips.
Go with a reputable place like Arizona Dyno Chip (ADC) that actually has hours (and I mean HOURS!) of tuning experience with the Contour. I know they've done at least over 1000 dyno pulls on one of their Contour test mules there and that was like 3 years ago. Whether your car is stock or has some sort of forced induction, I guarantee they'll give you a heck of a lot better tune than Jet will. I cant recall how much ADC's chips run, but I want to say in the ballpark of $325 or so. Youll have to email them or call to find out. Their website is www.arizonadynochip.com.
Btw, to answer your question about the Jet Chip, since you are not the original owner of the chip, you will have to pay a reflash fee. ADC will not charge you for reflashes once you buy the chip.
Your other alternative is to get a X-Cal 2 from Brenspeed which you plug into your pcm and you reflash the tune completely instead of being a piggyback like a chip. Brent can send you 3 different tunes I believe and if you want more tunes after that, send you X-Cal back and he'll make adjustments to your tune for free. Again, theyve done plenty of tuning on the Contour and they know this vehicle. X-Cal 2 lists for $379 on his website but he does give discounts to CEG members. Brenspeeds website is www.brenspeed.com.
And you really should check out the real contour forum instead of this one. This one blows. Check out www.contour.org. Thats where all the good information is at. We even have our own tuning branch over there in the forums if you have questions. Btw, we did a group buy on X-Cal 2's not to long ago from Brenspeed over there.

What he said. You'd be throwing 300 bucks away with a jet chip. Both ADC and Brenspeed have great reputations with this platform.
