Hello all I am new to the forum, and have a ? about gear drive timing for a small block chevy. I am thinking about putting a new cam in my 72 skylark and figured I might as well replace the timing set while I am in there. I have seen the gear drive sets and was wondering what type of h.p. gain, and if it was worth putting one in or just going with the timing chain and gear set-up? Any info would be great. Thanx

the only short term advantage of a geared setup (the ones that use two smaller gears between the top and lower ones) is that it makes a kinda cool whining noise. other than that, theres probably not any real horsepower gain from using that setup, maybe over time it will be more durable too since timing chains like to get slack in them and whatnot

Gear sets are quite noisy and IMO sound annoying after a few minutes
