Heater core

I started smelling anti-freeze when I turned the heater on, so I'm almost positive it is the heatercore. My question is do I have to discharge the air-conditioning unit to replace the problem core ? If so is this an easy thing to do if I can even do it myself, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You shouldn't have to discharge the A/C to replace a heater core. If you could tell us what year/engine/etc., you car is it would help :)

Look in the Tech Help thread at the top of the forum threads and you will find info on how to replace the heater core.
