Engine knock

Have 2000 2.7 ltr. had a lifter noise, check engine light came on. Car started to miss and run rough. Car now will not start and has lifter noise, motor races when it does run. What is the problem????

You need to have the codes read to determine why the check engine light came on. Have you checked your oil level?
