Im going to go look at a restored 65 Mustang Coupe today, im thinking about buying myself a "muscle car" so i thought why not a sweet car, a old Mustang!
302 engine with Edelbrock illuminum intake and 4-barrel carburetor, 3 speed transmission and dual exhaust. Under body of the car and trunk are solid there is no rust anywhere.
He is asking $6,500 for it. Is this over priced? What can I look for to make him go down in price? Any help is helpful! I dont know to much about Mustangs so please help me think of things to find on the car to make his offer go down.

The car is worth only what you want to spend on it. If there is no rust, the interior is nice, the underhood is nice, and you like the car then bargain with him anyway. Just pay close attention to the door hinges, frnt and rear valance and alignment of body panels. Check the 4 corners of the roof between the glass bth front and rear for cracks. Also look very close under the hood, look for absolutely any and everything that the paint could be hiding and check all fluids. Also take a small manet with you to check the body for bondo. Check passenger side floor board for rust/heatercore leaks. Then get him to start it the first time so you can watch the tailpipes for smoke at startup, blue oil smoke at startup tells me he has bad valve seals. Then get in the car and turn off/start yourself while its still cold. The drive it, see if he will let you drive it for the weekend so you can be sure that nothing is wrong with it. Then if everything checks out good try to talk him down to $5500 if you werent able to before. From the pics the car looks very original, I like it, but they are always different in person.

$6500 isn't a bad price at all, but since it's not the original engine, I'd do what 351wStang says and try to talk him down to $5500.

Ya dont let him try to tell you the 302 is the original motor for that car. The 302 didnt come out until '68 i think. ut I know fr a fact that car came frome the factory with probably a 200 inline 6cyl, but possibly the 289cid V8.
