Boost gauge

I have question about boost in 1995 SSEi (supercharged) with 113,000 miles on it.
When car is on idle it rests on -10 and when driving and give it a kick it barely goes over 0. Sometime reach close to +1,but most of the time is between -10 and 0.
I just bought the car few weeks ago and don't know if it suppose to be this way or is something wrong.
The car runs well exept I have Check engine light(scan shows EGR fault) and mileage per gallon is rather low(may need tune up too).
Allmost forgot, when it was warm outside gasoline odor could be smelled inside the car.
Any response will be appreciated.

Not producing enough boost is a sign that your Boost Control Selnoid is no longer working properly and needs to be replaced. Its a cheap part that is easy to replace and its common for them to go bad, however before you go on, you need to check your vacuum lines. That can also be a cause.
If you are smelling gas, check your evaporator cannister for any leaks.
An EGR fault means that the pintle is ether stuck or moving slowly. Take it out and clean it really well with carb cleaner, then lubricate the shaft so it moves easier. Do this first before you buy a new one, as a new EGR valve can cost you $100+. However you can get a cheap, used, and working one from http://www.moradpartscompany.com/ I picked one up there for about 30 bucks.
Tuneup will definately help, especially if you replace the oxygen sensor. They go bad after 50k, and when you replace it your MPG should go up by at least a few mpg. If you do get an o2 sensor, dont go bosch! Stick with ACDelco. You can get one at a good price at www.gmpartsdirect.com (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com) and pick up an oxygen sensor socket from a place like Sears for $10 bucks to make the job easier.

Thank you for pointing where to look.
I will check that solenoid if anything wrong with it.
You said to check evap canister for leak.Is that means there could be some gasoline or it's just vacuum system may have some cracks etc?
It actually smell near that canister when open the hood but I don't know what exactly to look for.Guess I'll remove it and visually inspect it.
I bought EGR on E bay for $32.Used but in very good condition.
Wewnt to Autozone,Pep boys and some other stores to look for EGR gasket and all of them are saying same: we have to order it and it takes few days.
And this is in megapolis like New York is.I went online and order it from
PartsAmerica.com along with Autolite Pro Series wires and some other stuff to make it $50 purchase(shipping is free if you buy for $50).
Also got Autolite 606 spark plugs.
Didn't look for O2 sensor yet. Is that socket at Sears special tool for O2 sensors or it's some universal tool ?
Just wondering if they will know what I 'm talking about when buying it. :)
Oh,and what woud u use to lubricate EGR shaft?
Thanks in advance

The cannister is below your air filter. You will need to remove the air filter assembly to get to it. It is a round cannister with a couple of vacuum lines going to it. You dont have a gas leak, but gas vapors filter through it and if there is a crack it will smell there.
Id suggest to forget the order/wait time for the EGR gasket and go to any GM dealer and see if they have an EGR gasket there. If not they can locate the next nearest GM dealer that may carry one.
As for cleaning and lubricating the used/old valve, you can lubricate with WD-40 or any other similar lubricant. But use it sparingly.
The socket is specific for o2 sensors, they will know what you are talking about when you ask for one. You dont explicitly need it, but it makes the job much easier. There is room in there to use a regular wrench. But the sensor can be screwed on tight, so a socket always helps. Dont forget to get a tube of anti-sieze and lubricate the threads so that its easier to remove next time around.
Hope that helps!

Just a small update.
Those guys from PartsAmerica.com
doing a great job.
I ordered stuff from them 11/01/06 (Wednesday)afternoon and this morning Saturday 11/04/06 it's here.
With their free shipping it isn't bad.
Just to clear it I'm not affiliated with them in any way.just expected it to be longer to gets here.
Next week will finally start tune up and EGR replacement.
Thanks again
