I have a 92 4x4. The system wasn't working and I replace the switch on the transfer case.

It worked and now must have broken again, because I have no suction up to the actuator.
Can I just bypass that actuator and replace it with the vacuum switch from a 99 and up? The transfer case engages so I have the power going to the front drive shaft, the front diff just doesn't lock.

I would have to run a switch to it to activate it and engage the front diff.
Wonder if I could use the switch for the 4x4?
Or I could mount it right under it.
What do you guys think?

If all the first switch is doing is opening the vacuum supply to the actuator, anything else that accomplishes the same thing within the vehicle voltage supply looks like it would work too.

Check your vacuum lines.
Wasting your time retrofitting some other part will get you no where.
Find the actual problem.

already replaced them all. the switch breaking it the problem.
Guys retrofit all the time here. That's what makes it fun.
just want to try something new, and the parts are cheap at the u pull junk. and easier to replace.

Take the part you replaced back for a warranty replacement. If it isn't that, it is a bad encoder motor.

Should work. Let us know. If you tie into the existing 4wd switch, use a relay to keep current draw low on the stock switch. A separate switch is probobly good for you, since you understand whats going on, but it may confuse a future buyer(if you sell it)

Too much of a pain and by the time I noticed it, it's out of warranty. Like I said, It's not driven much and it work when I didn't need it, and was bad when I needed it, in the snow on a hill.
Just looking for a better way, and I like the 99 set up better. I think it will be a good mod. And I like not having to tread that switch back in the transfer case. It's a PIA.
