I'mmm back. 93 bravada, vortec v6 smartrac. about 1 month ago had to have battery and alt replaced. was having inter. no start,or crank with clicking from starter was told by pepboys starter going. no start very inter. now. son calls, there in cincinnati, i'm in fla, now car won't shut off. key out of ign., dash lights off, engine still running. had him try to locate ign. switch (still on top of column under dash?) wiggled this and that still running. went to disconnect battery cable, just touched wrench to it and engine quit. started and shut off several times after- all o.k. any ideas anyone???

Sounds like an ignition switch or secondary ignition circuit problem. The primary ignition circuit cranks the engine when the key is turned to the start position bypassing all accesories and lights to lighten the load on the battery. The secondary ignition circuit, when the key is in the run position, is what runs the vehicle and all lights and accesories. The ignition switch may work in the start position but not in the run position.
On an older vehicle like yours the tilt steering joints and multifunction switch are probably about to go too. I changed the whole steering column on my 86 with a salvage yard one. cost me $85 and took about an hour, just make sure you get the keys with it.

Thanks Eric. The "multifunction switch", is that the turn signal stalk with the cruise and wipers functions in it? and is the ign. switch on top of the column under the dash on this year? when I did a search I found info on later years that led me to think that the switch is behind the steering wheel.

Does this truck have electric fan?I can't recall right at this moment,if it does, is it still running when this happens. If it is ,it is possible that the relay for the fan is not shutting of and the fan wirks as a generator and keeps the system powered up so it keeps running till the fan slows down enough to stop making voltage to run.
