Son of a bitch! You guys have seen pics of my engine bay before; I am very anal about it's cleanliness. I got under the hood last night to clean the acid crust from around the battery area, and there were acorns all over my engine bay. Not only that, but they ripped up the sheet of insulation that goes on the firewall!

Well
Two ways to fix squirrels. :grinyes: :grinno:
Fry the young ones or pressure cook the old tought ones.
That is when season is open on them.

best thing to do is next time you detail your engine bay...use a silicone shine agent.....like trans-mate's accent.....does wonders.....little bastards cant grip to get under there:nutkick:

Anyone got a part # for the insulator/liner? Chevy dealer wants $150, and I'm trying to beat that.

There was a guy on craigslist.com begging for someone to give him a BB gun so he could shoot squirrels...was that you? :nono:

No, if I shoot them, it will be with 12 gauge slugs; I intend to vaporize them.

Where's the sport in that? You should limit yourself to at least a .410

I perfer a 100lb pull off compound bow with 12" spikes..that way you stick them to the ground for their little buddies to see the carnage and makes them think.
In regards to your PM..no, sorry can't help

I found it! http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?addtocart=1&addpartnumber=15078177&singlepart=1&partnumber=15078177

The damn chevy dealer near me wants $150 plus tax for it; that's over $26 above list price.

I dunno, but the stealership said they just got through replacing someone else's firewall insulation for the same reason.

Are you sure it's Squirrels? I had a Rat that was eating shells and stuff like that all over the underside of my Tractor. I got so tired of the mess I laid out some traps and caught the little bastard.

If you want to catch this thing. Put some sticky pad type traps under the hood of your engine. They stick to that and then you've got'em. Sorry to hear about your engine bay.

Happy Hunting, as it were...

I'm sorry, I had to quash my initial reaction of laughing. It really does suck. Don't have to deal with that kind of crap in this part of Suburbia. I've had friends get rats or mice eating battery and starter cables, but never anything this extreme. Were they setting up storage in there? This reminds me of those commercials for the cereal with the nuts in it where the squirrels were relentlessly trying to get to it.

Man, I dunno what they were doing, or when they did it; I drive my truck 5 days a week

We had a cold snap last week, so they may have gotten under there in the evening when I got home to keep warm.

i love killing those little bastards with hand thrown objects... it makes it more of a challenge. what you do is corner them on the end of a low branch sticking out in the middle of nowhere on a tree, then take a basketball and chuck it right at thier head. one time the little bugger i hit was still alive so i let my neighbors cat carry 'im off. lol one time i was driving under a tree that was over the road and one fell on my hood. almost crapped my pants that thing scared me so bad

It may be packrats also. We have them here in idaho and they can get into your engine and make a pretty good mess of it. They chewed out the wiring harness on a friend of mines car. The mechanic that fixxed it suggested putting mothballs under the hood. Works like a dream. Havent had one in my engine in a long time.l

I think they came back... More tearing of the insulation, and they actually built a nest in the valley between the driver's side head and the intake plenum. I'm about to go put a moth ball or two under my hood.

Wizard: Hang in there man. 'Tis the nesting season. This time of year I'm always checking the intake filter box for nests and constantly cleaning them out.

The moth ball thing sounds good. I think I'll try it and hope for more H.P.

Seen pic's of your eng comp and sure hope that when the 12ga comes out that the hood is closed and the truck is behind you.........Steve

Hehe... I was complaining to my electrician (I'm a superintendant) about this today, and he pretty much told me the same thing. My compartment looks like crap right now, too. It's not only dirty, but it has the torn insulation. $95 from GMpartsdirect, and it might make a nice saturday afternoon project.

When I put 2 mothballs under my hood tonight, I went around my yard throwing them out around trees and bushes. Maybe they'll all leave. Next step is a GAMO pellet gun.

Blenderwizard, what do you use to clean your engine and everything else under the hood?

You might have rats instead of squirrels. Squirrels usually this time of year are storing nuts for winter and they don't gnaw as bad as rats do they just bring their nuts hide them and leave to get more nuts. Seems to me the rats are trying to set up housekeeping in your truck if they are building a nest getting ready to start a family of little rats.

Others have also pointed that out. Just for the record, though, I do not have rats in my house.

Firedawg81 was right... Put a couple mothballs under the hood and the critters will stay away. Works great for storing a ride. Mothballs under the hood on the inside by the dash and in the trunk. You don't need a lot, just a few.

I don't have rats in my house either but this time of year I have trouble with well I call them rats but they are field mice getting on my engines nesting, peeing, crapping and gnawing. As for moth balls do you really want your truck smelling like a bunch of old clothes out of the attic? I got a tom cat not seen not pellets or nut shells under my hoods since and my black lab keeps the squirrels ran off to a wide circle so they don't get in my trash any more. I was not implying that you had rats in your house and I am sorry if I made it sound that way.
