Yup. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Got it. But say I'm standing in front of the grille of the car. Looking over the engine. Would it look like this?

Right. Number 1 is usually on the drivers side of GM's, unless it FWD.....

Remember that on a Chevrolet SB, the rotation is clockwise, so cylinder 8 is one tower to the left of cylinder 1 anywhere on the cap.
