Hi Everyone,
I have a 1995 Intrepid. The car would start after several attempts and also had a clicking sound when trying to start. This has been going on for sometime.(well over year)
The mechanics always sayed they were not sure what it might be (starter, "cylinnoid" or relay) so never had it fixed. This past weekend I went to store, got back in car to come home the dash gauge's all were not working (no fuel, temp, oil pressure gauges) so i thought oh boy and put in drive and went to come home, the car bogged down and sounded like it was about to die then the dash guages all came back on and car was fine and got me home. Next night we got in the low 20's and car went dead! Will not start.
Tomarrow I will try swapping out the starter relay with another just to see if one of those is possible, but heard ignition switch, wondering what the chances are of that being it? We have fire, hear fuel pump, etc turn on when key is turned, but when key is turned just no cranking or starting, turn key & nothing. Have checked the fuse panel nothing there. Would like some input before having it towed out to mechanic, any advice highly appreciated, :uhoh:

We tried a method for testing starter & relay box after reading a post on this board. When it wouldnt start we tried swapping out relays in the distrubution box under hood, we found the starter relay isnt bad, as it worked on the swap out for fuel pump and wind shield wipers. So by suggestion on this board it would suggest it wasnt a faulty starter? But oddly after playing with those relays, someone said to pop the top off the relay and push down on relay contactor (for the starter relay) an our car started, so we tried it again and nothing but click click, so he has been trying to check the wires from ignition switch to relay box for bad connection and hasnt found any breaks etc, but said someone before has been in the column as of the way the wires were put back, The car is back to starting at random. He took the steering column cover off, and looking at the idea of trying to replace the ignition switch, but it is in a metal odd piece, and he is hoping the switch comes out of that piece for replacement. And also was wondering if it requires a special tool for taking the switch out. So by the info above would this point to a ignition switch? but keep in mind this car has had this problem for many years, the mechanics always tried suggesting faulty electric system, so we just lived with it up till now as it is hardly ever starting. Thanks

I forgot The Clicking Sound Is comming right from starter, when trying to start and we get the click he said it is right at starter. We want to try to make sure, as a starter is a little costly, and we just went through an ordeal with our pontiac bonneville we ended up forking out well over 600 following the mechanics and it was a 30 part, crank shaft position sensor ughhh!
