Air Pump Question

I have a 87 Dakota with a 2.2 4cyl 5 speed. My question is... What would happen if I took the Belt off the Air pump? I would like to eliminate the tube that runs from the Air pump to the Catalytic converter. The Truck runs good, so I don't want to mess anything up....
