50 in my Tsi

Yeah... I just bought a Garrett 50 trim... I know I'm gonna have to change out my manifold and downpipe(flange at least), anything else I need to change?

anything I need to know a/b going up to this turbo? it's not exactly a bolt-on affair... is it still oil and water cooled? do I need bigger injectors? I heard it was the equivalent of a 16G... is this true?

^I know all of this sounds like a FAQ farm, but I really have questions and haven't even got the turbo yet (just shipped today)... so I wanna learn... b/c I might get stuff fabricated and put it on when the car gets put back together...

No, it is not like a 16. Its a decent bit bigger. And yes, you will need bigger injectors, an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator, and fuel control. IIRC, 660's should do you ok on that 50 trim, but it doesnt hurt to go bigger. If you go bigger than 650's AFC wont be able to handle them. AFC is a primative fuel control anyway, once you get it and a data logger you might as well have just gotten DSMlink. I see you have a 255, it is a very good idea to get a new FPR. That pump is going to be outflowing the stock FPR by quite a bit, do a search for "fuel pressure regulator" or something to that effect by kjewer1, you will find some good info there.

Ok, thanks for the info...

I was actually planning on getting DSMLink (sooner than I thought I guess)...
This I guess will be my project, piecing together the kit...

What I'm seeing is:
680's
DSMLink
(maybe a rebuild in meantime, bought it on e-bay)
FPR

What I get out of it all:
Sell SAFC
14B will be a backup or sale it...

Any suggestions for a FPR? will an E-bay FPR suffice, or should I go high-dollar?

eBay FPR's = shit. Aeromotive FPR's are tried and true, cant go wrong with one of those. They are a tad bit expensive though, but I think the FPR and install kit can be had for $250 new from SBR. There are others that maybe ok that can be had for cheaper, but they wont be as good. However, I am a cheap ass and considering the amount of shit I have to get before my car hits the streets, I may look into a cheaper unit like the megan racing one. If you have money though, Aeromotive FTW.

Very true. And I wouldnt cheap out on something so important. If that things goes bad while doing a hard pull there goes your engine!

Dude, we have a classified secion for a reason. Next time put something for sale in there, even if it pertains to a certain thread. A simple PM would have done the trick in this case.

Sad part is, the car has been driven for months w/255lph pump and stock fpr... didn't know I needed an aftermarket...

Hope it works out for ya. $60 turbo though, doesnt sound too good. I would hold up on buying shit until you get it and give it a good look over. Also, you are going to need and external wastegate.

Yeah, I know a/b the $60 for a turbo... I'm expecting a rebuild at least... I haven't really set out to buy anything for it yet... but I'm entertaining the idea to see what I'd need... it's prolly outta my budget... but I figured WTH, if I could salvage just the housings on the turbo, I'd make the $60 back ($85 w/shipping)

I was noticing that there was no wastegate... I've started looking at manifolds this morn... I just know that it'll be awhile before I could even think a/b putting this turbo on the car... b/c I still gotta get it running the way it is now...
I've got the trans, and window, now I need axles and fluid. Then I'll hopefully be back on the road. Then I can start looking at adding on, but this whole FPR thing is worrying me now. I'm probably gonna drop some of the extras I was gonna do and get it straightened out first(had a bigger compessor outlet, stainless clutch line, lower tb blockoff, and ported TB elbow on my list...)

Oh, and I've got a friend locally who's looking a Garrett... at least the housing, he's making a hybrid... so it should all work out...

Hey, quick question... for time and money's sake will the BK fuel commander (check RRE if you don't know what I'm talking a/b) suffice?

Thor06

No. Those are a complete waste of money. Save up and go Aeromotive. Give fuel pressure a search under kjewer1. IIRC, the stock FPR is ok at higher RPM's its idling/lower rpms its bad. It causes injector overrun but I dont remember all of that thread. Look it up, it will help you.

Ok, thanks for the help... I'll prolly just buy the Aeromotive then... $250 :yikes:
