Hi, I have a 2003 Lincoln LS, and the heated part of the climate controled seats do not work. I took it back to the dealer many times, and they replaced the seats twice, and they are still broken. The dealer, and the manufacturer are telling me that the seats are not working due to my weight. I weigh 300LBs, which I don't believe that it is that much over the average weight of a Lincoln owner. I had my best friend drive the car, and he is about 260, which the seats did not work for him. The manufacturer is telling me that it is not a design flaw, or a manufacturer defect. I would like to know how Lincoln can get away with designing a heated seat in cars and SUVs that cost between $45,000-$65,000 that do not work for anybody over 250LBs. The dealer also told me that they are having the same problem with any Lincoln with heated and cooled seats. I don't know what I should do, everybody is telling me that I am SOL. Thanks for all of your help.

If you turn the passenger seat heater on while driving, does it get warm to the touch with nobody sitting on it? On my 2004 with the heated and cooled seats, the passenger seat will get warm to the touch with no body sitting on it and the heater on. Do you have the heated and cooled seats, or just the heated seats? I'll check my service manual to see if there are some things for you to check.
The seats do circulate air as part of the cooling process, I'm not sure if they use air for the heating. If the air has no way to circulate, it may reduce the effectiveness of the cooling.

Rod, I do have the heated and cooled seats. Both front seats get warm to the touch, but when I or anybody around 250Lbs sits in the seats, they turn off within 2 minutes. According to the dealer, the seats use the same system to heat the seats as it uses to cool the seats. They are telling me that I am crushing the air ducts due to the weight issue. I have test drove 3 other LS's between 2003- 2004, with the heated and cooled seats this past week, and they do the same thing. If you might know anybody that can test your car, that would be great. I have also taken my seat out of my car, and could not find the ducts that the dealer is talking about. I assume that they are under the leather, and I did not want to take the leather off of the seats without knowing anything about upholstery. I will say that the car is great other than this issue. I am still stund that Lincoln in telling me sorry, but not our problem. I again find it redicous that Lincoln can get away with designing seats for expensive cars that do not work for anybody that is slightly overweight. If anybody has had this porblem, please let me know what your resolution was. Thanks again everybody for your help.

The issue is not my weight. The issue is with Lincoln, and the crappy workmanship of my car. You have never met me, so you have no right to judge. When you become perfect, you can start judging other people, your jerk.

It turns out there is a Technical Service Bulletin on the seat issue and crushed ducts. If you'd like a copy of the TSB in it's entirety, send me a private message with an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments. TSBs are no recalls, having the TSB repairs performed may still cost you money, but since this is a known issue, you may be able to argue for a refund on the money you've already spent.
Pasted below is a snipet of the TSB.

CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEATS TURNING OFF SHORTLY AFTER INITIALIZATION - DTC'S B2729, B2730, B2731
LINCOLN:
2003-2004 LS This article supersedes TSB 04-04-02 to update the vehicle model years and service procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2003-2004 Lincoln LS vehicles may exhibit a condition of one or both climate controlled seats turning off shortly after initialization with one of the following combinations of DTC's present in the climate controlled seat module (CCSM):
^ B2729 (Cushion Over-Temp Detected) with or without B2731 (Differential Temperature Fault) present ^ B2730 (Back Over Temp Detected) only ^ B2731 (Differential Temperature Fault) only ACTION
The conditions described may be caused by an airflow restriction due to seat cushion (http://www.alldatadiy.com/alldata/AFI%7EV7599079%7EC38470%7ER0%7EOD%7EN/0/101825161/102960155/104119947/104119949/34853741/34866522/56290491/56291171) crush (2003 Model Year), or one of the ducts in the climate controlled seat may be disconnected (2003 or 2004 Model Years). Refer to the appropriate Service Procedure below for details.
