I thought i better move the build up to teh WIP section.
Painted :) still needs clear coating, but im happy i chose gunmetal for colour

Bear in mind the body was broken in half so the roof is slightly out, it was the best i could manage

I came across some 1.24 scale jada models that come with tubbed tyres that you can swap n change. i might try and find these in the shops to see how they look in real life

hey almost looks like my model lol.
Your car looks mint!, it would be worth some good money if it was still around in that condition.
Your right about the hotspots. Youd be in heaven if you came to sydney on one of the rotary cruises!.

(How large are those tires? Does you need to make alterations on the chassis to make them fit?)
The paint looks stunning!

Please don't take this the wrong way. Those wheels...don't do anything for me :uhoh: . Way too big for the car. Please, please, please reconsider!!!
To me old-school cars like the RX4 look good with up to an 18" wheel. Smaller 16's/17's that don't fit newer cars actually work quite well on old-school cars like this. I never have liked gold wheels on cars, even Ferraris/Lamborghinis look dreadful w/gold wheels :icon16:
I did a cursory look at some custom rims I have on my RX4 (no pics), Aoshima 19's and 20's are a good size for this car in this scale. They're a lot nicer/more modern than the stock 13/14" wheels, but nowhere near as obscenely out of scale/out of character as the ones you show. I tried a set of Jada 1/24 bling rims on my RX4 and nearly :puke: To make that "work" you have to raise the car up like a Donk (the most horrid cartoon trend in "custom" cars in my lifetime). 26" rims in 1/24 are still over 20" in 1/20, and that's just too big for a '70's era car w/small wheel openings. Not to mention the surgery you'll have to do to the chassis/suspension to fit the wheels.
Pegasus makes a lot of 18's and they make 23" sleeves for them, they also fit the RX4. Not sure if you have access to that kind of stuff down under, but they're a lot more suitable as well.

its cool, but although big, they are starting to grow on me, i think like you regarding wheels sizes, and if anything i prefer the smaller is better approach. , but this is the only wheel i could find that looks like the wheels below. obviously bigger version. and it wont be a shiny glossy gold, the gold will be like the gold in the pic, a flat matt style. And cutting the chassis is no problem as the kit is missing the whole interior. Also whoever started putting the kit together before me, used superglue for most parts. The exterior is the only part of the car i can get up to a decent level

yeah, I think you will get flamed for the big wheels. you need a "DUB CITY" decal on there if you run those wheels!!! hahaha
I like the car though. there is actually a REAL one at the local Pull A Part salvage here in Oklahoma City. I have been really tempted to get it and slap this spare KA24DE motor in it so I can have a sweet little reliable drifter!! ahaha

I do like the wheels, but I don't like the size of them. I'm a realist when it comes to building my models though, and in reality, those rims wouldn't fit in there without building a complete tube frame and custom suspension. wait, this is the model world. let's say it HAS a tube frame, custom suspension, and it's just curbside!!! haha

Pleeeeeeeez change the wheels!!! If that was a real car the steering wouldn't turn and they'd be rubbing on the arches on every change in road surface. The rest of it looks great - wheels ridiculous - sorry if I upset you.

Nah i completely understand everyones comment on the wheels, i had the same thoughts, but im liking them more and more each day.
I still have to make twin mufflers (same type as for my rx2 model) and finish indicators and a few other small details. but the wheels are staying i think!.

Hello,
Nice scale model. Love the color choice. Have to admit the wheels threw me off at first scince I am a fan of orginal non modified cars but they have sort of grown on me. Where did you find it. You mention that you don't see these anymore. Well if you happen to be in Montreal, I have one. A 1974 with the first year of the 13B. Its also in as NEW condition and never been restored. It wears all its original paint and interior and still shines like new. I bought it this summer from the original 94 year old owner (a car fenatic) who had the it professionally stored and maintained each year. I have searched for years to find one but never imagined I would find one that had been in a time capsule with only 33K original miles.
I will try to include some pictures but I am not very good at this so if they aren't here check back again soon. I did figure out how to post a link so you can see it at the following site. Sorry in advance to the site admin if I am not suppose to post a link to another site. If I am required to remove it please adivse me or if you do so I fully understand.

Theres a charcol rx2 on the internet with wheels like the ones you put on your rx4 model, and it looks exactly like your model, just an rx2, not rx4.
