Idle Surge

I have finally got all of the issues with my supercharger install
solved except one: I have a a "surge" at idle. While idleing, the
rpm's sruge from idle (about 900rpm) to about 1400 rpm, then back.
I thought the problem might be the air temp. switch and the new
relay, so I checked the circuit and the switch, both seemed fine. I
plan on checking the idle air control solenoid tonight, but it seems
wierd it would pick now to go out.

Any ideas?

Have you tried re-settting the idle, following the proper steps of un-hooking/plugging the EACV, then setting it 750 rpm.... The ECU will throw a code while your doing this, just ignore it. After your finished just re-set it along with plugging the the EACV connector back in...

Also, might try spraying carb/injector cleaner spray into the hole where the "IDLE AIR SCREW" goes. It will get gunked up in there over time...

Did you get all the air bleed out of the cooling system...? Otherwise, go back and do it some more, and give it plenty of time!!!!!

Go back and check your cam/crankshaft alignment to make sure it's "dead" on..? One tooth/notch off can cause the valve timing to be off as much as 18 degrees...

Are you sure that is a D16 head on there...? The previous owner had installed a D15 head on my D16 block. There is a differeance in the cam gear timing, between the two heads... This ended up causing a prob similar to yours on mine.... HEHEHE

Did you re-place the the TB gasket, are did you just re-use the old one...?

Try spraying some WD40, ect... around the TB, intake manifold, ect... and listen for the engine to rev up for a second.

Just some thoughts...

DDW: I will try this tonight.

DDW: Tried this, cleaned all of the injector body as well as possible.

DDW: Thought I did, but I will try again tonight.

DDW: Didn't touch the cam/crankshaft timing at all, so that shouldn't be the problem, but I will check it.

DDW: Yes, replaced with a new one, checked to make sure they matched as well.

Try spraying some WD40, ect... around the TB, intake manifold, ect... and listen for the engine to rev up for a second.

DDW: Tried this everywhere I could thing of, no difference.

I went through some pretty bad nightmares myself, after having my engine re-built, and the sc installed (it was used one). A couple of months after the install, it blew "two" HG in less then 24 hours.... NOT counting the week or so it set in his shop. Also, it would just never run/idle right either. Ended up setting in his shop for over a month. Drove for about three miles before having to call for a tow... Thats when I started doing as much as possiable of any work/mods that needs to be done now...

Come to find out the %^&* mech., had RAPED ME.... Cutting so many corners, . He tried to re-use the head bolts, ect.. In order to stick more $$$$$ in his pocket....

However, the SC had NOTHING to to do with any of these issues. I had JR really searching for answers, over the mess I was in. They really could never help, due to what the mech. had done. Sooo, I was prettty much left out in the cold...

He went on to say the head had been to the machine shop to be "fully" inspected, when it never left his shop floor in the first place....

Sooo, your probs will get solved much like mine did.... hehehe
