park avenue interior lights

interior lights come on for a few seconds and go off by themselves. occurs frequently enough to run battery down

I had the same problem then it went away and then I had a problem with the interior lights not going off while driving. A real nightime driving hazard. Thought I traced the problem to a bad body control module (BCM). Found a replacement on the web but that didn't fix the problem. Finally found a half decent wiring diagram from ALLDATA and tracked the problem to an input to the BCM. The C4 input terminal to the BCM (grn w black wire) is the auxilary lighting input and comes from the LH and RH front door handles and a Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module. I can't find any information on an RFA anywhere. Pulled this pin from the connector and the lights now go off just fine. The lights don't come on when the handle button is pushed but do when the door is opened. They don't come on when the key FOB is used either. But I can live with this. As near as I can find out the RFA module may be the keyless entry receiver. Known to have bad solder joints. Maybe on the rear deck near speaker.

You could just have a short in the interior cabin light switch.

Excuse my ignorance here. I went to the library and got the Buick Electrical Systems Manual for 91 PA and PA Ultra. And I can't find any BCM listed. I found EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module). But I don't think that is what you are speaking of.

Could you please tell me where the BCM is located in the car? Thanks.

Not sure if it is much help, but on the '92 PA the BCM is a blower control module. It controls the speed of the heater fan and is located under the hood near the fan and A/C exchanger.

mschroer was more than likely refering to a "Body Control Module"....earlier models have "RAC" or Retained Accessory Control modules...basically the same components, just different names.
