B16 ECU to D16Y8

I read an auction on <here> (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1856653742) selling a B16A ecu from a wreck. He claimed it could be used in a D16Y8 if it was a manual also. He said you would want to do this to raise the redline. Will it even work, can the D16 handle the extra rev's?
Thanks for the help.

nope, the b16 ecu from the 99-00 si will not fit. it is an obd2b and your stock harness is an obd2a. trust me, i just found that out a week ago when i had a friend let me try his ecu. one of the plugs didn't fit. you'll have to get a harness for about 130-150 online. I think it's an ok idea to put in that ecu, cause the displacement is the same and you gain a higher redline. just make sure to check your ignition timing cause i think it advances it. so you'll have to adjust it. if you have the money go for a chipped ecu. oh. hey, do the zex camshafts make a significant amount of hp gain. i was thinking of getting one but had no one i knew to back it up. i'll just have to get the skunk2 if you don't reply!!!

Ok, first off, welcome back thread from the dead (2 years old now). Yes, that ecu might run your engine, but not well. It's fuel and timing maps are completely changed from those in the D16. (Trust me I know, I've been doing lots of work with pgmfi.org and uberdata/crome.) Also, raising the redline that high on a D16 is by no means safe, say hello to your piston smashing your valve as the D16 valve train is without a doubt to weak to keep the valves from floating much above the 7000rpm stock redline.
As for the Zex cam, it made a decent gain. Not much, not worth the money IMHO. I had it for a few months. Ended up selling it when I went turbo (yeah, my sig is ancient, almost all of that stuff is gone, but I never ever read this forum anymore, so I could care less about changing it). As for the turbo, whoooo, big gains, but be prepared to deal with ECU nightmares when it comes to tuning. I've spent the last few months combing through pgmfi.org as well as many other sites since I am to cheap to buy Hondata/EMS so I'm going the DIY route.

Hahaha, that's funny, you ask a question almost two years ago, and someone digs it up, and then you come back with all the info you asked for back then.
I got a question for you about the Uberdata, what all do you ahve to do to run it? I know you need the software, I have it downloaded, but as far as interfacing with your ECU, you need to socket it, and then get a ROM burner so you can put the chip in right? And what's needed to connect your ECU to a laptop so that you can datalog? I am tinnking about using Uberdata, right now I am just using WB's and an A/F controller, but I'd like to step it up, since I have the WB I can get real readings now, also most people I have talked to about ti are complete jackass, and seem to think they are the king shit because they are using freesoftware as opposed to Hondata, but the way I see it, it isn't free because you still have to burn the chips right, and buy a laptop if you don't have one.

You need to first start off by reading everything you can on ecucontrol.com, ecimulti.org/uberdata, and pgmfi.org. but for a quick response (feel free to IM me since I will probably not get to most of you're questions), you need to solder in a socket, as well as a controlling chip, and a few resistors/capacitors. Once you have that go over to moates.net and order the burn1 unit as well as a few 29c256 chips. This unit allows you to use a USB cable to burn chips for the ecu right from your laptop. You then put the chip in the car and drive (obviously). As for datalogging, you need $18. Go to radioshack and get a nokia data cable (170-0787) and a phone cord (i used this because it was a cheap easy, 3 pin connector, part # 279-0441). Follow the instructions on ecucontrol.com for which wires go where. Basically, the phone cable I bought is an extension, male on one end, and female on the other. I cut it and soldered the femal end to the ECU (the location is really easy to spot once you have the ECU open) and I soldered the male end of the cable in place of the proprietary Nokia phone connector. As far as getting a wideband into your laptop, depends on the brand you own, but it is possible with some to run the 0-5v input right into the stock O2 wires on the ECU (make sure to disable O2 heating in the bin file) and datalog straight through ecu control or uberdata. Personally, I prefer crome to uberdata, a lot easier to use, and its base maps run my car much better than anything I've ever gotten to in uberdata, but I don't have a wideband, yet...
