I just started looking at a 97 blazer 4.3L 4x4 with about 130,000 miles on it. I have had no experience with any SUV's, including the Blazer. I was wondering what the common problems were and your opinion of whether or not it is worth looking into..the guy wants $3k for this one, and looking at the pictures the body is in good shape. I know you can't tell much by the info I have given you, but I'm just looking for any opinions or information you could give me? Thank you.

97's are best known for the IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS FAILURE, Don't look at the truck in the evening, Daytime checking only...Check the trans fluid for burnt smell or brown color, Open the radiator cap and look for signs of a gooey mud mess (Death Cool). Get all records of repairs? in other words, Find out how well they Maintained the truck, Make sure it goes in and out of 4whl drive, turn on and test every single option in the truck. SCAN IT FOR STORED CODES if you can. How sloppy is the steering when you drive it? Do the brakes pulsate when you stop? If everything checks out for you, then offer him $2500 for it. if he says no, leave him your phone number and tell him your going to look at another blazer in the morning at 9:00 oclock and walk away, your phone will be ringing before the night is over.
Good Luck and post the results back...........

Lower intake manifold gasket, ball joints, door hinge pins, turn signal/multifunction switch, CSFI fuel injection system, fuel pump, as well as the normal wear/problems any Chevy with that many miles could be expected to have. Personally, I've never had any 4wd problems with my 2000 Blazer 4wd 115,000+ miles, but others here have. Try clicking the "How To/Technical Information" section of this forum and that will give you a pretty good idea of some of the more common problems.

regarding the 1997 chevy blazer s-10 2dr v6, there have been problems with the fuel injection system. just to let you know, chevy has a 200,000 mile extended warrenty for replacement of fuel injectors if they are bad. 85.00 to check it out, if it is the fuel injectors, they will replace free and there will be no charge.
