Tips On a CAI

I'm probably gonna pull the K&N Filter out of my 2000 SS. I'm thinking of putting a CAI in. A few of the questions I had off the top of my head are:

What would be the best brand?

Do K&N CAI's have oil on the filters like their air filters?

Would I have to get a new PCM?

Any and all information on the matter is appreciated.

Cold Air Inductions, Inc. makes a nicely built one - the aluminum box is even insulated to keep the heat out and the intake air cooler - the filter clamps right onto the MAF through the box, and it's a 9" filter (bigger than the one that K&N uses on theirs) which allows for more intake air/flow:

I just put the new LS4-V8 version in my '06 Monte SS, and it's nice (http://coldairinductions.com/W-BodyLS4V8ColdAirBox.html). I can notice an improvement in acceleration, and pulls harder than stock when getting on it from a roll...

Yes -- K&N's uses a K&N filter, as well as the one from Cold Air Inductions, Inc., so oiling is required - but it comes pre-oiled, so it would be good to go for about 50K miles before you'd need to check/clean it.

No new pcm or tuning is required.

If I were to get a CAI with a K&N filter in it, would I still have to worry about oil getting on the MAF sensor?

NO -- not if you follow the K&N instructions on cleaning and re-oiling the filter
