Well I've needed a new clutch for a while now and I'm pretty shure I'm going with the ACT 2100 w/ street clutch. I'm wondering if I should get a new flywheel or not. I have it narrowed down to the act or the fidanza. Could
someone name the pros/cons to them?? My car is also only a street car because I dont know of any tracks where I live, but I drive alot and I'm some what hard on it.

If your gonna have it all apart you might as well put in the aftermarket clutch as opposed to another stock one. The fidanza one will allow it to rev much quicker. Your gonna get a chromolly one right?

lighter flywheels rev up quicker, but they rev down quicker too. sometimes my car stalls after i rev up and then let off the gas completely.

There are both pros and cons to a lightened flywheel.
They are lighter of course, and therefor will produce a quicker rev, but they also have somewhat less of a rotating mass and much less momentum, so when you're trying to engage the clutch, they slowdown much quicker, therefore slowing down the engine rpms and can cause the car to stall out. IMO, they're not worth it unless you're doing some serious racing and need all that little extra power. My 2 cents, have your stock flywheel machined for the ACT clutch and be done with it.

Has anyone ever driven a car with one? I have, they are quite amazing. Idle-8000 rpms in next to nothing in my buddies Del Sol. I drove his car before and after the clutch/flywheel setup, it was noticably faster than before and I think atleast some of it was from the flywheel. You just have to give it more gas and finesse the clutch different, IMO lightweight flywheels are absolutely worth it.

I drove my friends TSi AWD with a lightened flywheel and they are indeed quite different. All in all, I think I like it and have a chromolly one for my motor. Chromolly ones won't explode at higher rpm's like aluminum flywheels can.

i have the act 2100 with a fidanza flywheel. it seems liek a pretty good combo to me. quite a noticable difference.

A flywheel that lets you rev faster in neutral may be cool, but it doesn't rev that fast when you attach the rest of the drivetrain and therefore the weight of the car to it. ;) The reduction of rotating mass is a drop in the (huge) bucket IMO... Not a bad upgrade, and it makes downshifting a lot easier to rev match, etc, but I never thought it worthwhile enough to spend the money. I always just had the stock flywheel resurfaced for 30-40 bucks and drove it on. Be sure they cut the step height to .610 though, or you may be doing the job a second time. ;) If you do buy a new flywheel they usually come stepped at .610, but I always measure it first, or have the machine shop measure it, because I don't trust the non-existent quality control at most of these companies.

The step is the difference in height between the friction surface and the top of the stand offs that the pressure plate bolts too. That needs to be .610" plus or minus a couple thousands. I checked on ACT flywheel out of the box and it was correct, but I would still check every one.

Well basically everything in this thread I have changed. I'm now going with a cfdf w/ a fidanza flywheel. i have put the 8 pound flywheel in my car and it is indeed alot different than stock, but the rpms do go up alot faster in between gears, just have to rev up a little higher to take off than stock flywheel.
