My windshield wipers work fine but when I turn them off rather than going down they stay straight up. Is there some kind of sensor I can buy to fix this problem?:banghead:

It helps to know the vehicle year, and it doesn't apply in this case but telling people what engine is in it usually helps too. Since your profile says 97 we'll go with that...

someone must have taken them off to put a window in or something. so do this turn them off. pop the caps off at the end of the wipers by the motor bay, and unbolt the wipers. take them off and bolt them back down in the spot where the are soposed to be. They must have put them in backwords when reinstalling them.

Do the wiper arms stay where they are when you turn them off? Or do they go to the straight up position no matter where you turn them off. For example: if you turn them off while the blades are down at the bottom of the windshield do they stay there or do they go back to the straight up position? On GM vehicles there is a circut board that controls the wiper motor and if part of it goes bad the wipers will not "park" themselves. I would check that before you go unbolting shit and moving it, cause then what happens when you turn on the wipers? The motors are going to try to wipe off the firewall.

Thanks for your replys... It is a 97 camaro rs 6 cylinder vehicle and It does not matter where in the cycle I turn them off they will always go in the upright position after turning them off. I agree that it is a ciruit problem but do you know what it is called so I can look up the part?

there is probably a potentiometer in the wiper motor.. switching that would prolly help.. but thats just me.. there might be a sensor instead.

Has this always happened or has this just started recently? It is strange that they return to the straight up position.

I have the same problem with my 97 Grand Prix GTP. We were expecting a blizzard last week (which we received in full force) so I shut off my car with the wipers up and pulled them away from the windshield so they wouldn't freeze to it.
Now the wipers park in the upright position. It's strange, when I shut them off they seem to attempt to park down where they're suppose to, but they then go up and stop.
I can't remember if it started first thing in the morning after clearing the windshield or not. There was a lot of ice built up at the bottom of the windshield that I had to chip away and I wonder if I damaged something. This car has more bells and whistles than I've ever had on a car so I wouldn't doubt if I broke something. But what did I break?

Welcome to the forums licobe. This thread is kinda old working on 4 months or so. If you have a similar problem go ahead and post a new thread.
