just wondering...

does anyone happen to know or be able to make an educated guess as to how much power i need to do the following....
burn out all the way up to about 80 or 90 miles an hour before the tires finally catch completely

this would be with a 73 c-10 im building that has a 383 waiting to be dropped in, backed by a turbo400 with a transpak and the stock 12 bolt posi rearend that came with the truck. i dont know the ratio of the rearend, but it used to be able to go 60 in first gear with the 350 i had in there before i gutted the truck out. i recon i was doing over 6000 rpm at that point due to the ricer-like whine of the motor

Spinning the tires at 90MPH is not in the best interest of control, stability or safety. You would be instant roadkill.

Besides, it won't happen. Even an 800hp NASCAR Nextel Cup engine can't do that.

yeah i suppose barking the tires shifting gears at 90 is a little different than actually roasting them all the way up to that speed.

i assume that even if i had the power to do a burnout that long, i would probably have the rear end come out from under me and fishtail into a guardrail or something before i got anywhere near that speed

A few road racers have dropped gears coming out of corners at 70-80 MPH and burned tires well into the straight stretches and well into three-digit speeds. If the car is set up to track straight, and a qualified driver is at the wheel, it doesn't always end in a pile of wrinkled metal.

haha!!! i bet if i got rear tires as skinny as the ones on my honda accord for the truck, it would throw a rod burning out so much

yeah, you wont be burning out much past 50 if you put wide enough tires on it to be able to get any traction for launching.
i'd go with WIDE tires and settle for 40-50 mph burnouts.

yeah i think my main objective will be to not do any burnouts if possible on my good tires, then every once in a while i might swap some crappy old rims on there with old tires and have some fun
