Wiper Defroster in Windshield

1996 Gr Voyager : What set the defroster to work in the windshield to melt the snow / ice for the wipers.

if yours is equipped with the frost/ice lines located just below the wipers,then you can use either the full defrost setting or by turning on the rear window defroster
