It may all depend on what you want to long term with your car. I personally say :monkeypis on VTEC. I am a fan of driveable power, not revvable power. Meaning I like it when you make power lower in the RPM band. I hate riding in friends cars and waiting for 5K rpm to come up before we start going anywhere.
I assume that you are from Canada since you list your car as a CX. If you have a 1.5 now you will have to convert the fuel injection system over no matter what swap you do.
The two most common Non Vtec swaps in your car would be the ZC and Integra LS motor. The ZC would be cheaper of the two. The LS has a bit more power and aftermarket support as far as parts go.
If I were you I would check the Honda Hybrid page. This isnt really a tutorial page on how to swap engines. If you want opinions I would read up on it there or some place else then come back here to post questions if you still dont understand something.

I would definetly go with ZC (dohc non-vtec). VTEC is nice if you dont mind dumping your clutch at 5 grand everytime you take off:)

ZC runs about 500 w/out shipping and is a direct bolt in, no need to change anything.

WRONG. This is only true if you are keeping your stock transmission which would be RETARDED. And if you did keep your trans you would still have to rewire the car, change the ECU, get different Intake, get different header ( unless the ZC comes with one, either way youll need a cat because your 1.5's is built into the manifold, a resistor box for the MPFI, new radiator hose and so on. If you go with an SI or ZC trans you will be in it for new axles and hubs.
Like I said before. go to a page that specializes in swap info where it is all laid out. Try hasport.com or search yahoo. Dont rely on people here. Most of them are 16-20 year olds that know nothing more than the fact that the world is round....

I dont launch at 5 grand nor do i have to wait for revs to come up to get power(thats what N2O is for), ZC's are cheap but unreliable(from what i've heard). The ls motor is good, the D16 z6(92-95) or y8(96-00) is also a good swap. As for the quality of people here , there alot of good people here with damn good info. By all means use your own opinion though....

Well gee, he specified what model his car was. Is it that hard to read CX? People like me? people like me end up helping out the people who get screwed over by the people who send them in the wrong direction in the first place. There is nothing I can say to give someone else a bad rep. Other than my own opinion of what I think of them. People can make their own judgments from that. Youve been here a whole 22 posts, so watch what you say. You dont know me. If you dont like my attitude then thats great. I didnt like your answer to his post. :flipa:Hopefully that guy will take my advice and find his info somewhere else, perhaps in the motor swap or whatever forum on this site. At least he didnt end up buying a motor thinking that his swap would be all gravy because, hmm let me put it in your way "people like you" told him it would drop right in. I didnt put you down personally in my previous post. I just wanted to make it clear that what you stated was wrong so the guy wouldnt think that it was true.

Thats not true. I mean i know b16 are torqueless and all but hey it moves even before the v-tec kicks in. Also if i had a gsr motor that will take off better cause it has more torque than b16 and i think the ls motor also.:) Anyways back to the post. I would say if your tight on budget then go with the sohc v-tec or zc. If you can afford b-series motor then by all means go for it!:D

man, look whos talking. you only have 125 posts! give me a break.
now, gunnmen and I have BOTH done the sohc vtec. i think he'll agree...when you use the sohc vtec engine, P28 ECU, and wiring harness...it is pretty much plug n' play. tranny, axels, and motor mounts work. you can even use your DX tranny. but it's really worth it to get the 88-91 Si tranny.
i personally went with the y8 because it came out of a '00 EX with only 12,000. that is new born baby in honda terms. i did not go with the ZC because it is recommended to be rebuilt (they sit too long and seals go bad). the zc is made up of many parts. i didn't feel like having to keep a shopping list of parts number for the ZC so i know which timing belt...which oil filter..and so on is needed.
i think i would ask travis_118 about how hard the ZC swap was. he had never done a swap before and did it himself (with some friends). i'm sure he can tell you do's and don'ts he learned

Ami I thought you have had a ZC? Your website says....
"The ZC engine came stock in the Si's in Japan. With 135hp on tap a 4th gen will scoot the 1/4 mile in the 15's with basic mods. This engine is a direct bolt on. You will want to change the ECU to a Integra ECU and the best bet is to have a SI trans. I personally have a ZC in my Civic HB and Im very happy with it. The ZC has a bad rap as being an engine that breaks down but I dont think that is the case at all, with all used engines you take risks. I think the ZC has plenty of power, you may not be able to beat a B16a 4th Gen but you can give most imports a run for the money with this engine."
Drop shop seems to think the SOHC vtec is a better engine and I know he has had both :) ..... B series is great I would love to have one but I am not planning on running anything better than low to high 13s... SOHC VTEC is cheap, realiable, easy to work on, has massive aftermarket support, you can usually find one with mods already, IE header, intake, spark plugs and wires....., and best of all it is a direct swap putting out 125-132hp and 105 torque..

This is what Ami said since I think she is friends with the dropshop guy.
This is a very interesting discussion....I have a ZC, have it 85% rebuilt and plan to use it, HOWEVER, if I were to start this process again, I think I would very seriously consider doing what Ami did, and find a wrecked late 90's Civic and pull the d16y8 out of it.

the engine info on the site is all the info that was there before me. i am slowly going through and updating all the sections with newer info. i plan to finish the how-to's after the car show this weekend and then get to the engine section.
LOL, i said "now, gunnmen and I have BOTH done the sohc vtec". i had considered the ZC. i actually didn't realize how easy the sohc vtec was to drop in. dropshop told me to quit being a whimp and just do it. and it was pretty easy.
you must have gotten confused when i said travis_118 has a ZC...ask him how easy it was to swap in. :)

EFSLEEPER, what do you have up your ass? Is anybody supporting what you have said? No. Why because you are being a prick and none of us appreciate it. You may have issues with your man hood and think you have to be belligerent and ignorant when you disagree with something but that isn't a reason to get your panties in a bunch and insult the rest of us. Who cares how many posts you have? Everyone here has a main interest and that is our 4th gen civics and sister cars 2nd gen CRXs. If you want to keep running your mouth go ahead and do it but do it on your own time and alone so nobody has to listen to it. Almost everyone here is just trying to share information and get together with others that have a common interest. Newbies and their questions are welcome and appreciated. And your comment on the age of the users in this forum just shows how immature you really are. If you are older than those classified in your group of idiots you are just undermining your own comments. On another note don't screw with ami because everyone has her back. The knowledge she posesses combined with the manor in which she presents it is vastly superior to yours so I would bite my tongue if you have any other negativity to spread.

The knowledge she posesses combined with the manor in which she presents it is vastly superior to yours so I would bite my tongue if you have any other negativity to spread.
Holy Shit, (excuse my language) but damn, i dont think anyone could have laid it out better even if was givin to him on a silver platter. Pretty much, EFsleeper, learn to play nice with the younger kids and dont be a prick and the younger kids wont have to kick your ASS! :flipa: :flipa:

I remember first reading this board and seeing how many posts you had. it wasnt too many. 200 or so if I believe. And I dont like your car so bring your VTEC over, I invite all variable valve crap control, especially those of the SOHC variety.:bonghitte
I got more posts than most everyone in the 88-91 forum (cept maybe ci5ic and kbslacker) so what now?
Personally I would rather go ZC just because I think DOHC is pretty cool. Right now I have the SOHC ZC in my car which came with it, so its pretty tight. What do you got anyway?

Yo H4Bangin - why to stay on topic ;) - You learn pretty quick for a new guy.
As for the rest of you...too bad you all had to bust on EFSleeper. I was thinking I was gonna have a 4th gen buddy nearby, as he is only about 65 miles away...but alas, I cannot control his actions..:bloated:
He did have a smiley after his post, so I think maybe you guys were a little harsh :o :p

No such thing as v-tec so the original question is invalid anyway :D
ZC if you want a quick fix, but an older engine, SOHC VTEC for an engine that is current with better parts availability.
Go figure ;)
Real men drive DOHC VTEC anyway
waiting... waiting.... :p

that's a hard question. it depends on the driver. you can expect anywhere from 15.6-18.0 (i saw one guy run a 19  doh!)

Aw yo! I wasnt hating! Dont even play me like that playa.

ITS A BONG, not a crack pipe.
Come back when I have a real EF huh? well hmm. Let me see, are you any better with that hurt ass integra? I would line my car up against any members in here that is normally aspirated, 1.6L or under, VTEC or not and the results would speak for themselves. My engine is supposed to have more hp than your SOHC, so does that make your EF even more inferior than mine?? Youre a walking contridiction. Is it because you have VTEC? Thats a pretty dumb reason to think that a 4th gen is a real EF just because it has VTEC. I wouldnt classify your car as a real EF anyway ami, since when did "real EFs" come with your motor??? hmmm?
:sun:
But anyways, Im done argueing with you. you win if you feel that we were in competition. And no one "kicked my ass" with the posts. You have to come up with something really clever to make me feel stupid. I was in a bad mood when I first said something prickish. and for that i got this nice flaming. Yay. and hey stanley- gimme a call if you need help throwing in your motor. Im always looking for something to get into.
