Few questions on 2002 Montana

We have just bought a 2002 Montana and have some questions.
1. We have P0440 and P0442 error codes. I think these relate to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System. We want to know if these are something critical to get fixed soon or can we ignore them?
2. The interior lights (reading/map light, cargo light and the one in the middle) are on even though all doors are closed. We were thinking that they will turn off after a while but they are not. We drove for 10 minutes and they are still on. So, we have to manually turn them off by using the button on the overhead compartment. We read the manual and we couldn't find anything about this. Any idea what could be the problems?

For # 1, you can find a list of Diagnostic Test Codes from This Page (http://www.my-chevy-venture.com/other-information.html) (near the bottom of the list). Those ARE both EVAP issues. It could be anything from a loose gas cap, to some other small leak in the system.
For # 2, I would guess that maybe you have your dimmer wheel (near light switch on the left of the steering column - see below) turned all the way to the right. That would cause the interior lights to stay on all the time. Try moving it back to the left, or in the middle and try again.

I believe there are also switches on each of those lights so they can be switched on by themselves. For the map lights (front), just push up on the lens to switch them on & off. For the other lights, I believe there are switches near them.

I would check the light(s) individually and make sure they are not all turned on separately. They can all be switched on one by one like previously mentioned. Favorite trick of my kids…

Hi Greg and LittleC,
About#2, I slided the dimmer to the middle and the interior lights are now off when doors are closed. I thought the dimmer is only to control the brightness of Instrument Panel Cluster. I guess I am wrong. Thanks a lot for your advise !

First step on Evaporative Emission codes is the old gas cap routine.
Usually not serious/critical but should be fixed.
Make sure it is tight 3 clicks and sealing good and no fill ups with engine running.
Check cap and clear codes and see if code returns.
If so post back for more help.
